The best season to visit is summer, from early June to late September. Some treks are only accessible in July and August.
Outside this period, certain places may be inaccessible due to snow and ice on the roads, and temperatures in the mountains can drop very low.
June and September are less touristy and therefore more pleasant for a quiet stay.
Nomads generally move their yurts up to the summer pastures in May and return in early October, though there are no fixed dates as this depends on the highly unpredictable weather.
If you visit outside the summer season, you should expect unforeseen circumstances.
In winter, Kyrgyzstan is ideal for mountain-sports lovers—you can even go off-piste skiing with horse-assisted ascents!
