What are Kyrgyzstan’s emblematic animals?

The Kyrgyz Horse
An important animal for the local economy and identity, most herders own at least one horse. The Kyrgyz horse is a riding horse standing 1.34 to 1.64 meters tall and weighing around 450 kg. It is mainly used for riding and carrying loads.

The Snow Leopard
Snow leopards inhabit the high altitudes of Kyrgyzstan. In the country, they are listed as endangered by the IUCN and WWF. A sanctuary has been created to help protect the species.

The Marco Polo Argali
This wild sheep is recognizable by its horns, which curve outward from each side of the head in a double spiral. It can be found in the highlands of the Pamirs and the Tian Shan mountains.
