Southern Thailand is recognized worldwide for its paradise islands and turquoise waters that harbor some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, making the region ideal for diving.

The narrow continental coastline runs vertically, bordered by the Andaman Sea to the west and the Gulf of Thailand to the east, which differ primarily in their climate patterns: the monsoon or rainy season arrives later in the gulf than in the Andaman Sea. This difference leads travelers to head toward the western coast during high season (December–February).

Among the most famous and beloved islands for tourists are Phuket (the largest), Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta in the Andaman Sea, and Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. These islands are known for being vibrant and paradisiacal, but it is sometimes better to head toward smaller, more isolated islands like Koh Lipe or Koh Jum for a more peaceful stay.

Beyond the islands, the mainland also offers its share of wonders. It is home to the Khao Sok National Park, an idyllic and pristine green paradise, as well as the province of Krabi and the Khao Lak coast, both of which are departure points for the country's most stunning sea excursions.
