What is the currency and exchange rate in Madagascar?
The national currency is the Malagasy Ariary (MGA).
As of 2025, €1 = 4,700 MGA on average.
At local markets, prices may still appear in old Malagasy francs — simply divide by 5 to convert to Ariary.
Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted in larger towns and hotels, but it’s best to carry cash for daily purchases.
