For stays of less than three months, a visa for entry and residence is required.
Obtaining a tourist visa is very straightforward and can be done upon arrival at the airport.
Since January 1, 2018, the visa system has become electronic, traceable, and secure — allowing travelers to save time upon arrival and even extend their stay with a simple online request.
Procedure:
Online:
You can apply through the official website www.evisamada.gov.mg
Payment is made online through a secure system. Once approved, you will receive an entry authorization by email. Upon arrival, the border police (PAF) will issue the official visa sticker.
On arrival:
After landing, follow the “Foreign / Non-resident passport” corridor.
You will be asked to present:
Your valid passport,
Your electronic flight ticket,
A return or onward ticket (with a visa for the next country if required),
The address of your accommodation.
Visa fees are paid directly at the airport counter.
Once you receive the entry authorization, head to the PAF counter to obtain the official visa sticker.
The visa fee depends on the duration of your stay — generally between €35 and €50.
Since January 1, 2016, there has also been a tourist tax of €10 per visitor entering the country.
The visa is valid for up to 90 days and cannot be extended or converted into a long-stay visa.
It does not allow any paid employment.
This process applies to all Malagasy airports handling international flights.
