How to move in Indonesia?

By plane

In view of the distances that can separate the islands, it is sometimes more convenient and especially faster to travel by plane within the country. Some low cost companies offer regular flights between the main cities of the archipelago.

On a boat

Who says island says sea and necessarily says boat. Many ferries are being prepared to link the islands together. For short trips, the boat can be a more economical and ecological solution than the plane but be careful to learn about distances. Some crossing may seem endless and spread over several days.

By train

In Indonesia, the rail network is not very extensive. We find some lines on the island of Java and Sumatra.

Very popular on Java, the train is used by many locals. You can easily connect Jakarta to Yogyagarta for example.

By bus

The bus is the cheap way to get around on an island from one city to another. Different companies allow you to travel day and night easily

City buses also crisscross the larger cities to take you from one point to another. In this case, it is better to be patient, especially during rush hour.

We also know the Bemos which are mini-buses that can carry a dozen people. Very convenient and inexpensive, borrowing a bemos can become a full-fledged experience of your trip to Indonesia.

By taxi

The taxi is to favor for the trips in town In Indonesia, they are very cheap. Remember to explain to your driver your destination. In major cities in Indonesia, there is an application (GRAB) that makes it easier to find a taxi.

In some areas, it is possible to rent taxis by the day to discover the surrounding tourist sites. Prices are to negotiate with the drivers.

On a motorcycle

Motorcycles and bicycles are a very convenient means of transportation in Indonesia, especially to discover the countryside (we do not recommend the use of two wheels in the city, which can be dangerous). For driving two-wheeled vehicles an international license is required.

Other means of transport

In Indonesia you will also find other means of transport like the Becak, or the rickshaw, the bajaj or vespas -taxis that can take you to your destination in the outskirts of the city because they are forbidden to circulate in the city especially during the day.
