What type of government does Bhutan have?
Until 2008, Bhutan was an absolute monarchy, ruled by a king since 1907.
In 2008, it transitioned to a constitutional monarchy and held its first democratic elections.
The current king, Jigme Khesar Wangchuck, son of the former monarch Jigme Singye Wangchuck, was officially crowned on November 6, 2008, at 8:31 a.m.
He remains the youngest reigning monarch in the world.
