Supporting disadvantaged children in the North

Introducing the ABCD for All Association

Founded by Sophie Marguery, ABCD for All is dedicated to supporting children in disadvantaged villages in northern Thailand. It was during a trip to the Land of Smiles, specifically while trekking through the jungle, that the then 20-year-old encountered members of the Lahu tribes. From that moment, she developed a deep love for these people and decided to embrace their customs, living among them for 7 years. It was during this period that the association's journey began. Friends and family joined Sophie in helping more than 80 children from Lahu villages. This was the beginning of a story that would officially take shape in 2004 under the name 'ABCD for All'.

Today, the association is managed by 7 people: Sophie, Evelyne, Malissa, Laa, Moumou, Sandrine, and recently young Toua. They operate in 14 villages and support 480 children. How? By providing them with school essentials (materials, transportation…), offering monthly material assistance, and recently, providing access to academic support. None of these actions would be possible without the support of sponsorships…

The sponsorship system

To fund its initiatives, ABCD for All relies on its sponsorship system. Sponsors must make a monthly donation of 14 euros to their sponsored children. This sum is allocated as follows: in the first month, sponsored children receive a basic needs kit containing a blanket, mosquito net, pillow, and towel. Then, a food package with groceries, hygiene products, and care items is distributed to them every month.

While most children available for sponsorship are between 1 month and 16 years old, the association increasingly supports adolescents and young adults in difficult situations. In such cases, in addition to regular provisions, they may receive cash and seasonal clothing. As you can see, the funds collected are used according to each child's specific needs.

Sponsors receive photos of their sponsored children in return and can visit them in Thailand if they wish. In any case, this journey would mean nothing without their invaluable support. If you'd like to get involved in this cause, visit the official website http://www.abcdpourtous.com/index.html of ABCD for All. Of course, this is a commitment made from the heart, so don't hesitate to contact the association for more information—the team will be delighted to tell you about their work with local communities and their shared passion for Thailand.
