Founded over a decade ago, Trash Hero is an organization dedicated to combating waste, particularly plastic. Its main mission? Cleaning up litter on beaches, in cities, and in rural areas across roughly a dozen countries worldwide. Planning a trip to Thailand? What is Trash Hero?
Trash Hero is a nonprofit and charitable organization launched in Thailand in 2013 by two travelers, Roman Peter and Jan Bareš. It is a volunteer-led movement whose mission is to combat waste, especially plastic.
Trash Hero Around the World
Today, the network extends across many Southeast Asian countries and several European nations. In total, the organization operates in 13 countries:

Trash Hero's Initiatives
Trash Hero's mission is to gather and engage communities to clean up and reduce waste. To achieve this, the movement runs several programs:
Waste Collection:
Every Trash Hero branch organizes community cleanup sessions with support from local businesses. Volunteers typically meet once a week in different locations (beaches, countryside, city centers, and more) to collect as much litter as possible in 1 hour.
Water Refill Network:
Trash Hero fights against single-use plastic water bottles. To combat this, it has created a water refill network. The organization partners with local businesses to provide free water refills to communities and sell reusable stainless steel water bottles.
Educational Program for Children:
With an eye toward a better future, Trash Hero implements numerous educational and awareness initiatives for children and young generations. Beyond organizing cleanups with schools and children from all backgrounds, the organization has created an engaging book telling the story of a young waste hero. The book is filled with daily waste-reduction challenges. Each completed action allows children to earn points and win rewards.
Zero Waste Projects:
Trash Hero offers ongoing training to volunteers who wish to launch their own zero waste projects. Topics covered provide deeper technical knowledge and general skills in waste management, data collection, zero waste principles, communication tools, and more. Through this training, numerous volunteers have launched their own initiatives (such as community waste banks and composting programs) and become zero waste ambassadors.

To participate in litter cleanup on Thailand's beaches or in its cities and countryside, it couldn't be simpler—just show up. Cleanup operations are free and require no registration. To join a session in your chosen city, visit the page for that local branch to find the scheduled time and location.
Cleanup sessions typically run weekly. You won't need to bring anything, as all necessary equipment (such as gloves and trash bags) is provided free of charge on-site, thanks to donations from participating local businesses.
