Visa Exemption

French, Belgian, Swiss, and Canadian nationals benefit from a visa exemption for stays of less than 30 days.

You will only be asked for proof of departure from the country at the boarding gate (a return flight ticket, for example). You must also have a passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date into Thai territory.

Tourist Visa

For those wishing to stay longer than 30 days in Thailand, a tourist visa will be required.

This must be requested from the Thai Embassy or a consulate, the only authorities competent to issue this travel document.

The tourist visa allows you to stay for 60 days in Thai territory. To obtain it, you must visit the Thai Embassy in your country and bring the following documents:

•     An original and photocopy of your passport, valid for at least 6 months from your entry date into Thailand,

•     2 color passport-sized photographs,

•     A visa application form to be downloaded from the embassy website,

•     A fee of €30 payable in cash,

•     A photocopy of your round-trip flight ticket,

•     A photocopy of a financial document (bank statement),

•     A photocopy of your hotel reservation or accommodation confirmation.

Visa Extension

Whether you entered Thailand with or without a visa, once on the ground you can apply for a visa extension or prolong your stay.

This request is submitted to one of the numerous immigration offices in Thailand (be sure to ask locally for the closest immigration office to you).

Visa extension is a maximum of 30 days. For this, you need to bring your passport, a photocopy of your passport, a photocopy of your visa, 2 recent passport-sized photographs, and an extension application form available on site. The extension will cost you 1,900 baht, approximately €50.

Arrival and Departure Card

Upon arrival in Thailand, you will be provided with a document called the Arrival/Departure Card (usually distributed on the plane or to be requested at the border checkpoint). Complete this card carefully (front and back) before presenting yourself to immigration. The officer will keep the first part "Arrival" and return the "Departure" portion stamped to you. Be sure to keep this Departure Card as it will be requested at certain hotels and especially when you leave the country.
