Visa Exemption

French, Belgian, Swiss and Canadian nationals enjoy a visa exemption for stays of less than 30 days.

At the departure airport, you will only be asked to provide proof of exit from the country (return air ticket, for example). You must also hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Thai territory.

Tourist Visa

For those wishing to stay longer than 30 days in Thailand, a tourist visa will be required.

This must be obtained from the Thai embassy or a consulate, the only authorities competent to issue this essential document.

The tourist visa allows you to stay 60 days on Thai territory. To obtain it, you must visit the Thai embassy in your country and provide the following documents:

-         An original and a copy of your passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Thailand,

-         2 color passport-sized photographs,

-         A visa application form to download from the embassy website,

-         A sum of 30 euros to be paid in cash,

-         A copy of your round-trip air ticket,

-         A copy of proof of financial means (bank statement),

-         A copy of your hotel reservation or accommodation certificate.

Visa Extension or Prolongation

Whether you entered Thailand with or without a visa, once you arrive you may request a visa extension or prolongation of stay.

This request can be made at one of the numerous immigration offices in Thailand (be sure to inquire locally to find the nearest immigration office).

Visa extension is for a maximum of 30 days. For this you need to bring your passport, a copy of your passport, a copy of your visa, 2 recent passport-sized photographs and an extension request form which you can obtain on site. The extension will cost you 1,900 baht, approximately 50€.

Arrival and Departure Card

Upon arrival in Thailand, you will be given a form called the Arrival/Departure Card (usually distributed on the plane or available at the border post). You must carefully complete this card (front and back) before presenting yourself to immigration. The officer will retain the first part "Arrival" and return the "Departure" section stamped to you. Be sure to keep this Departure Card as it will be requested by certain hotels and especially when you leave the country.
