From Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, a direct flight to Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, would take about 9 hours and 30 minutes. Unfortunately, despite Hunnu Air’s attempt in 2014 to establish a direct flight between France and Mongolia, there is still at least one layover required to reach Mongolia. The same is true from Geneva and Brussels.
For flights with a layover, expect a minimum of 12 to 14 hours of travel.
Very few airlines fly to Mongolia. From Paris, you will mostly find four carriers:
Aeroflot, with a layover in Moscow, often offering the best price/travel-time ratio if you book your tickets far enough in advance.
Air China, with a layover in Beijing, sometimes also offered by Lufthansa as a codeshare. Air China flights often include a long layover in Beijing on the return. It is worth noting that upon arrival in Beijing, you are granted a free 72-hour transit visa, ideal for leaving the airport to spend a night in the city—or even extending your holidays for a few days to explore the Chinese capital.
Turkish Airlines, with a layover in Istanbul, which can be a very good option for some provincial cities like Toulouse. Please note that, in addition to the Istanbul layover, the plane makes a technical stop in Bishkek, where passengers must disembark.
Korean Air, allowing for a transit in Seoul.
For those wishing to depart from a European city other than Paris, you can also choose MIAT, which operates five weekly flights to Mongolia from Frankfurt and Berlin, with the possibility of easy connections from Paris or Lyon.
