2. Kalare Night Bazaar: A Traditional Market Steps Away from Tha Phae Gate

Located on the banks of the Ping River, the Night Bazaar is open every evening. If you're a bit tired after a long day exploring Chiang Mai, take a tuk-tuk! Once there, lose yourself in the maze of stalls and discover wooden sculptures, jewelry, and other typical items crafted by the local population. The Chiang Mai University Night Market also has plenty of small restaurants. Their tables, set up along the aisles, allow you to dine in the heart of local life, since many students come here to spend their evenings. University market rules mean prices are very affordable. 5. Warorot Market or Kad Luang: One of the 5 Markets to Experience in Chiang Mai

Unlike the other addresses in this selection, the Warorot Market is not a night market. It's a large traditional daytime market and one of Chiang Mai's main food markets. Therefore, it offers a wide variety of fresh produce, as well as typical foods, such as dried longans (an Asian fruit similar to lychee, also called "Dragon's Eye"), Monthong Durian Paste (a fruit paste made from durian, a tropical fruit renowned for its virtues), and spices used in traditional Thai cooking.

Want to taste local gastronomy? Indulge in Nam Prik Ong (a Thai stir-fry made with red chilies) or Sai oua (a spicy sausage, prepared with lemongrass, coriander, chili, and padaek sauce).
