How to get around in Egypt?
In Egypt, favor flights for long distances (Egypt Air, Nile Air), air-conditioned luxury buses between cities, and felucca sailboats on the Nile. In cities, use the Cairo metro, taxis or tuk-tuks elsewhere. Avoid trains and car rentals for safety reasons.
Long-distance transport
- Plane : fastest solution between regions. Egypt Air and Nile Air offer regular flights at affordable prices.
- Deluxe bus : more expensive than standard bus but air-conditioned, less crowded and more comfortable for inter-city journeys.
- Felucca on the Nile : traditional sailing boat, the most spectacular way to discover Egypt if your itinerary follows the river.
Urban transport
- Metro : available only in Cairo, practical and economical.
- Taxi and tuk-tuk : always negotiate the price before departure.
- Local bus : difficult to use for foreigners as routes are unclear.
To avoid
Train : outdated railway system with recent fatal accidents. Car rental : dangerous roads, unpredictable traffic.
