Visit Krabi Town

Due to its central location, Krabi Town is often considered by travelers as a transit point to reach the surrounding islands. Yet, Krabi Town deserves a few hours of your time.

Among the points of interest to see in Krabi Town, we recommend:

• Wat Kaew Ko Wararam: nicknamed the White Temple, this is the largest Buddhist complex in the province.

• Andaman Cultural Center: this cultural center houses an art gallery (collection of paintings and sculptures by Thai and international artists) as well as a pearl museum.

• The markets: whether you want to taste Thai street food specialties or buy travel souvenirs, head to the many markets in Krabi including the Walking Street Market, Ao Nang Landmark Night Market, or Krabi Weekend Night Market.

See the Rock Formations of Khao Kanab Nam and Its Caves

Khao Kanab Nam is considered the symbol of Krabi. These are 2 limestone karst rocks approximately 100 meters high located on the Krabi River. You'll also find caves accessible on foot by climbing stairs. To get there, you can take a long tail boat (traditional Thai boat) from Chao Fah Pier. Count on 15 minutes by boat. To continue your walk, you can also visit the fishing village of Ko Klang and discover fish farms.

Relax on the Beaches

With dramatic limestone cliffs and crystal-clear Andaman waters, it's no wonder Krabi province is among Thailand's most beautiful beaches. So, if you want to lounge on golden sand, swim, snorkel, or enjoy water activities, head to the most stunning beaches in Krabi, which include:

• Railay Beach: surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and lush jungle, this is Krabi's most spectacular beach. Access is by boat only.

• Phra Nang: surrounded by picturesque rocks at the south end of the Railay peninsula, this beach is a true natural gem where you can swim and snorkel.

• Tonsai Beach: accessible on foot from the Railay peninsula, this beach has the same characteristics as the previous ones but is much less crowded.

• Ao Nang Beach: considered the main beach of Krabi province, this is where boats depart for neighboring beaches and islands. Lined with a few bars and restaurants, this long beach is the ideal place for a walk at sunset.

• Nopparat Tara Beach: if you're looking for some peace and quiet, this beach is for you. Stretching 5 kilometers, this spacious beach is perfect for a more tranquil experience.

• Susan Hoi: this beach is worth a detour for its geological curiosities. You'll find numerous fossilized shells dating back 30 to 40 million years.

Visit Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple)

Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple) is among Krabi's must-see attractions. Located near Krabi Town, it's a temple perched on a hilltop featuring a golden chedi, caves, and a golden Buddha. It gets its name from tiger paw prints reportedly found near the caves. To reach it, you'll need to climb 1,237 steps. Once at the top, you'll enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Krabi Town and its surroundings. Allow approximately 1 hour for a round trip.

Practical Information: Open daily from 6am to 6pm. Free entrance.
As with all temples, be sure to cover your shoulders and knees.

Swim in the Emerald Pool at Sa Morakotet in the Hot Springs

Located about fifty kilometers from Krabi Town, Sa Morakotet (also known as Emerald Pool) is among the region's most beautiful landscapes. Hidden deep in the forest, it's an emerald-colored pool that seems straight out of a fairy tale! You'll find other natural pools like Glass Pool and Blue Pool. All these pools are fed by streams flowing through Khao Nor Chuchi Forest. You can swim in them (with the exception of Blue Pool).

Near the Emerald Pool, you'll also find hot springs where you can bathe in water with temperatures around 35 to 40°C.

Practical Information: Open daily from 8am to 5pm.
To access the Emerald Pool, you'll need to pay 400 Baht per person.
Note that many excursions combine the Emerald Pool, hot springs, and a visit to Tiger Cave Temple.

Hike in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

Feeling like stretching your legs? Head to Khao Phanom Bencha National Park where numerous hiking trails await you. Located 20 kilometers north of Krabi Town, this park offers the opportunity to observe local fauna and flora. You'll also find magnificent waterfalls, including Huay Toh waterfall. This 70-meter-high cascade impresses with its 11 levels and is the park's tallest waterfall.

Enjoy the View from Tab Kak Hang Nak Nature Trail

Also known as Dragon Crest Mountain, the Tab Kak Hang Nak Nature Trail is arguably the most beautiful trekking path in the region. The trail takes you through Thai jungle and leads to a summit where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Krabi province and the surrounding islands. Allow 2 hours for the ascent and just over 1 hour for the descent.

Practical Information: Free trail.
Moderate difficulty requiring good physical fitness. Bring sturdy hiking shoes and plenty of water.

Take an Excursion to Nearby Islands

• Four Island Tour: departing from Ao Nang Beach, you'll visit several islands near Krabi including Koh Poda, Koh Kai (nicknamed Chicken Island because of its chicken-shaped rock), Koh Tup, and Phra Nang Beach (at Railay). These excursions typically include multiple snorkeling stops and/or optional kayaking.

• Hong Islands Excursion: surrounded by magnificent lagoons and crystal-clear water, Koh Hong is actually a group of rocky islets belonging to Than Bok Horani National Park. Again, you can snorkel and kayak (optional).

• Excursion to Koh Phi Phi: made world-famous by the beach of Maya Bay, where the film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio was shot, Koh Phi Phi boasts many exquisitely beautiful landscapes. You can also visit other sites in the region such as Bamboo Island or enjoy snorkeling.

• Excursion to Koh Lanta: with its hidden beaches and abundant nature, Koh Lanta island has managed to preserve its authenticity. You'll be mesmerized while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere.
