Our Jungle Camp
Our Jungle Camp
Ecolodge founded in 1975 on the edge of Khao Sok National Park: bamboo cabins, tree houses, organic farm and ecotourism approach.
Our Jungle Camp is an ecolodge situated on the edge of the Khao Sok National Park, in southern Thailand. The project was launched in 1975 by an ecotourism advocate, a pioneer in promoting ecolodges in the reserves of Krabi, Phra Thong and the River Kwai.
Why choose Our Jungle Camp
The camp appeals to travelers who prioritize immersion in tropical forest over standardized comfort. Three principles structure the place: biodegradable materials or reclaimed resources, a ban on plastic, sanitary facilities powered by purified wastewater. No air conditioning, no television, no infinity pool: the philosophy is deliberate and consistent with the ecotourism approach initiated as early as the 1970s.
The organic farm on site supplies a portion of the fruits and vegetables consumed at the camp, and remains open to visitors who wish to participate in the harvest.
Atmosphere and setting
The camp sits on the riverbank, beneath the vegetation canopy of the park. The sounds of the forest – birdsong, cicadas, gibbon calls at dawn – form the primary soundtrack. A troop of tree-dwelling monkeys circulates nearby, visible from the balconies. In the evening, lighting remains minimal to avoid disturbing wildlife, which extends the sense of isolation.
Accommodations
Three types of lodging are offered:
- Bamboo cabins on the ground
- Two-story tree houses
- Bungalows by the river
The dwellings are furnished with simple beds under mosquito nets and wooden furniture. Each lodging features a private balcony overlooking the vegetation or river. The structures, integrated into the landscape, use reclaimed materials.
Services and activities
The camp organizes or facilitates several activities on-site and in the park:
- Yoga classes and outdoor meditation sessions
- Cooking classes led by local chefs, featuring classic Thai dishes
- Organic farm visits with fruit and vegetable picking for children
- Boat excursion on Cheow Lan Lake
- Guided hikes to waterfalls and natural pools
- Forest elephant observation outings
- Jungle night safari
An English-speaking reception is available at all hours. Children are welcome; pets are not admitted. A shuttle to the village center can be arranged for an additional fee.
Location
Our Jungle Camp is located 1.2 km from the entrance to Khao Sok National Park, approximately a 12-minute walk. Address: 123/1 Moo 6, Tambon Klongsok, Ampur Phanom, Surat Thani, 84250.
To reach the camp, the nearest airport is Surat Thani, approximately 30 minutes by car. Allow about 2.5 hours from Krabi airport and 3 hours from Phuket.
What to see nearby
Khao Sok National Park is one of the largest forest reserves in southern Thailand. Beyond Cheow Lan Lake and its emerging karsts, trails lead to several waterfalls, caves, and dense wildlife (gibbons, hornbills, macaques, sometimes wild elephants). To extend your trip, the Krabi coast and Phra Thong Island are reachable in a day.
