Baan Vajra
Baan Vajra
A 1930 colonial house passed down through the Vajrabhaya family, Baan Vajra offers 16 characterful rooms on Silom Road in Bangkok.
Baan Vajra occupies two colonial houses built in 1930 on Silom Road, passed down through generations of the Vajrabhaya family. Its blue and white facades, period furnishings, and Bodhi tree make it a characterful place to stay in the heart of Bangkok's business district.
Why choose Baan Vajra
Before becoming a hotel, Baan Vajra had another life: for fifteen years, its kitchens ran a beloved Thai restaurant in the neighbourhood. This culinary heritage remains evident today, notably through signature dishes like jasmine rice steamed to order or coconut soup.
The establishment stands out for its preserved colonial architecture. The two original buildings, dating from 1930, were complemented in 2018 by a four-storey extension, designed to coexist with the historical identity of the place rather than overshadow it. A private lift serves the entire complex and is accessible to guests with reduced mobility.
Atmosphere and character
The blue and white facades set the tone from arrival. Inside, antique wooden furnishings in the common areas extend the atmosphere of a family home rather than a standardised hotel. The landscaped garden, planted around a Bodhi tree, features an outdoor jacuzzi: it's one of the most restful spaces in the house, away from the bustle of Silom.
The furnished lobby serves as a day lounge, the reading room welcomes those seeking a quiet corner, and a gym completes the facilities for longer stays.
Rooms
Baan Vajra has 16 rooms, ranging from 25 to 50 m². Two ambiances coexist:
- Colonial rooms: antique wooden furnishings, period atmosphere, in the spirit of the original 1930 buildings.
- Classic rooms: soundproofed volumes, marble bathrooms, rainfall showers.
Higher categories include a jacuzzi or bathtub in the bathroom. Standard amenities (air conditioning, flat-screen television, free Wi-Fi) are available in all categories.

Dining and services
Breakfast, charged separately from the room rate, offers Asian or Western options, à la carte or buffet style. The house's Thai cuisine remains a strong point of the restaurant, a direct legacy of the fifteen years when the house operated as a restaurant.
On the services side, there is an outdoor jacuzzi in the garden, a reading room, gym, furnished lobby, and free parking for guests with vehicles.
