Shanghai Mansion, a prestigious Art Deco-style hotel

International-class hotels flourish in Bangkok. Are you dreaming of an unforgettable experience? Shanghai Mansion Bangkok is an excellent choice for a romantic stay. It opened its doors in the heart of Chinatown, an emblematic Chinese quarter of Bangkok. After crossing the red bridge leading to Shanghai Mansion, you will be transported to 1930s Shanghai. The Chinese atmosphere reveals itself not only in the murals and furnishings, but also in the menus of the Red Rose restaurant, which takes you back to the roots of Chinese cuisine. Browse the gilded shops of Chinatown, the oldest dating back to the 1880s. Savour the hotel's signature dish, which the emperors of Shanghai themselves held dear. End your evening in style at a trendy nightclub. Those seeking wellness will find their haven in the hotel's Burasari spa treatments. Setting aside the marketing pitch, Shanghai Mansion is one of the finest addresses for experiencing Bangkok differently.

Where is the hotel located?

Getting to Shanghai Mansion has never been easier. It is within walking distance of the MRT Hua Lamphong station; and since the opening of a new station opposite Wat Mangkon, the journey is even shorter. It is on Yaowarat Road, known for its fish markets, food stalls and traditional Asian medicine clinics, where the establishment welcomes its regulars. An English-speaking team will handle your reservations and inquiries. Pets are not permitted on the property.

Looking for a characterful hotel in the Chinatown district? Here is the address to remember: 479 - 481 Yaowarat Rd., Samphanthawong, 10100 Bangkok, Thailand.

Cosy and welcoming rooms

Guests will lodge in royal comfort at Shanghai Mansion. The owner acquired the building in 1892 and updated it to make it a tourist accommodation. A colour television with remote control, a DVD player and tea and coffee services provide comfort. We love the shimmering silk drapes, the brightly coloured curtains, the patterned pillows, as well as the elegant furnishings. The Shanghai theme is faithfully respected.

Luxury rooms differ from standard rooms by a swivel bathtub separated from the shower cubicle. To reach the height of luxury, book a Mu Dan suite or a family suite.

Tourist attractions near the hotel

Chinatown has a rather compelling history, having welcomed Thailand's first Chinese immigrants. Although most of them dispersed into Bangkok's suburbs and the Chinese community assimilated into the Thai population, the district has retained its former atmosphere.

Many cultural monuments are worth visiting:

  • The Chinatown Gate, the monumental entrance gate;

  • The sanctuary of the goddess Guanyin;

  • Wat Mangkon;

  • The Wat Traimit and its impressive golden Buddha;

  • The Yaowarat Chinatown Centre Heritage.

Don't miss the cafés and teahouses on Yaowarat Street. Rather outgoing or a night owl? The lively bars on the Chao Phraya River are waiting for you. A complimentary shuttle service is available to help you explore the city's points of interest.

Dine like Shanghai emperors

From delicious Peking duck to stir-fried prawns with sweet and sour sauce, via sea cucumber soup seasoned with abalone, dried scallops, ginseng and Chinese herbs, the chefs' culinary recipes will delight your palate. You will enjoy your breakfast in the Cotton Club dining room. It is presented as a three-course buffet preceded by a cup of French coffee or an espresso infusion. Lunch and dinner take place at the Red Rose restaurant. To combine musical relaxation with the pleasures of the table, spend your evening on the open-air terrace and enjoy the concert of music performed by jazz bands.

Sawa Discovery's assessment

  • We wholeheartedly recommend Shanghai Mansion for its themed décor that immerses you in 1930s Shanghai. Tourists seeking history and authenticity will love it;

  • There is no on-site parking, but this is only a minor inconvenience as you can easily park nearby. The most important thing is that the nearest metro station is just 350 metres away. Shanghai Mansion's location in the heart of Chinatown allows travellers to move around quickly without breaking the bank.
