Learning Organic Coffee Culture
Between Tasting and Discovery
Exploring the Suan Lahu coffee plantation is remarkably enriching in terms of knowledge. You'll learn extensively about organic coffee cultivation and its roasting process. Of course, upon arrival at the site, you'll also have the chance to taste the delicious aromas of this coffee roasted by Suan Lahu's residents, served to you personally in a beautiful cup.
Throughout your visit, you'll be welcomed by your indigenous hosts. They'll introduce you to Suan Lahu and the cultivation of organic coffee plants. The people working on-site are almost exclusively members of the Lahu ethnic minority, who live in a nearby village.
Explore the Coffee Plantations with a Lahu Guide
Information and Exoticism
A Lahu guide will take you to explore the 80-rai (12-hectare) plantations, of which 60 are planted with Arabica coffee and fruit trees. The remaining 20 rai are forest. The discoveries are remarkable and the landscapes are radiant.
After seeing lychees, lemons, and avocados, among others, you'll have time to engage in your first volunteer activity. Several seasonal activities are possible at the farm, ranging from caring for farm animals (pigs and chickens) to freeing plants strangled by vines, as well as sorting, roasting, and harvesting coffee beans.
This will keep you occupied until lunchtime, when you'll have the chance to savor a homemade traditional vegetarian dish prepared by your Lahu hosts. You'll also have the opportunity to purchase coffee, as well as tea, cinnamon, seasonal fruits (all from organic agriculture), and Lahu handcrafted items.
If You Decide to Stay for the Full Day:
Should you choose to remain for the entire day, you'll have the opportunity to participate in an organic bamboo or coffee cooking class in the afternoon. Additionally, a second meal featuring fresh fruits and, if you wish, coffee, will be served to you afterward.
