As part of the effort to combat Covid-19, and following changes to travel regulations from and to foreign countries issued by the Ministry of Interior and effective since December 4, 2021, travelers returning to France from Thailand are required to present a negative PCR or antigen test less than 48 hours old.

Getting an Antigen Test in Thailand

Our first recommendation is to choose an antigen test. Faster and more affordable than a PCR test, it will be your best ally in navigating this new health requirement.

Antigen Tests at the Pharmacy

Antigen test kits are available at pharmacies for the modest sum of 300 THB (approximately 8 euros), but unfortunately the pharmacist will not be able to provide you with a certificate in English that will allow you to board your flight.

This option should therefore be reserved only for self-tests in case of doubt.

Antigen Tests at the Hospital

To obtain the official certificate, you'll need to visit a hospital where a doctor can issue you a certificate of non-infection from Covid following your antigen test. While turnaround times remain quick (15 - 20 minutes), the cost is slightly higher than tests found at pharmacies (500 THB, or approximately 13 euros).

Getting a PCR Test in Thailand

Since December 4th, anyone 12 years or older wishing to return to France from Thailand must have a negative PCR test performed at least 48 hours before departure. It is therefore essential for every traveler to be tested before returning.

In Thailand, it is possible to have a PCR test at all hospitals and clinics throughout the country. There's no need to return to Bangkok if your stay ends in Chiang Mai or Phuket, for example.

PCR tests typically cost 2000 Baht (54 euros) for a result within 12 hours, and 3900 Baht (105 euros) for a result within 6 hours. You also have the option to obtain results within 3 hours at private clinics.

Before your return to France, you must also complete a signed declaration stating that you have no symptoms and have not been in contact with anyone who has contracted Covid. The certificate also serves as your authorization for a PCR test to be performed upon your arrival in France. The same declaration applies to all travelers from countries in the Orange zone such as Thailand.

Where to Get a PCR Test in Thailand?

All the addresses mentioned above also offer antigen tests. However, we still recommend getting a PCR test before leaving Thailand as some airlines require it. Don't take the risk of being refused boarding over a simple testing issue.

Each of these locations will provide you with a certificate attesting to your test and result. The certificate can be issued to you in English.

We remind you that pharmacies do offer antigen tests, but they do not issue certificates. You must go to a hospital, clinic, or laboratory to obtain one.
