Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

This is THE most popular floating market in the Bangkok area. Located in Ratchaburi Province, approximately 100 km southwest of downtown Bangkok, the Damnoen Saduak floating market spans 32 km along the Damnoen Saduak Canal.

You'll find everything here: tropical fruits and seafood alongside numerous local specialties to taste on the spot, as well as handcrafted items and souvenirs (hats, jewelry, bags, clothing...).

Its main advantage? The Damnoen Saduak floating market is the only Bangkok floating market open during weekdays. The downside? Due to its popularity, it's the most tourist-frequented floating market and therefore one of the least authentic.

When to visit? The Damnoen Saduak floating market operates daily from 7 am to 2 pm, or until 5 pm on weekends.

Amphawa Floating Market

Like the Damnoen Saduak market, the Amphawa floating market ranks among the most celebrated in the Bangkok area. Yet unlike the former, this market has retained a certain authenticity. It draws both tourists and locals.

The Amphawa floating market is situated less than 80 km southwest of Bangkok. On the boats, you'll mainly find fruits, vegetables, and Thai culinary specialties.

On the perpendicular street, a land-based market offers handcrafted objects and souvenirs (clothing, paintings, accessories...) along with a few restaurants. Take the opportunity to admire the authentic old wooden houses that line the canal.

When to visit? The Amphawa floating market operates every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon until around 8 pm. It's most lively in the late afternoon.

Tha Kha Floating Market

Looking for a truly authentic floating market near Bangkok? To venture off the beaten path, we recommend visiting the Tha Kha floating market. Located in a small village in Samut Songkhram Province, not far from the Amphawa floating market, this tiny Tha Kha floating market stretches along the banks of Klong Tha Sala.

What makes it special? Unlike tourist-oriented floating markets, the Tha Kha floating market primarily features fresh produce and a few prepared dishes from local communities. Here, souvenirs aimed at tourists have very little place.

Moreover, commercial transactions take place on boats rather than on the riverbanks, unlike most floating markets. This makes it the ideal spot for a canoe ride immersed with the locals.

When to visit? The Tha Kha floating market operates every weekend from 6 am to 2 pm.

Bang Khu Wiang Floating Market

Located in Nonthaburi, about twenty kilometers east of Bangkok, the Bang Khu Wiang floating market is among the most accessible floating markets from downtown Bangkok. You can even reach it by boat from the Wat Chalo pier in Bang Kruai!

Once again, this is a floating market that has preserved its time-honored soul and traditions. Indeed, you'll find mainly fresh produce (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, spices...) as well as flowers.

It's also a market that follows local customs, operating very early in the morning. In short, it's the market to choose if you want to experience a floating market in a local atmosphere far from tourist crowds!

When to visit? The Bang Khu Wiang floating market is open daily between 4 am and 7 am.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

The Khlong Lat Mayom floating market is one of the three largest floating markets in Bangkok (alongside Amphawa and Damnoen Saduak). Although it's located just 20 km from downtown Bangkok (in Thonburi, on the west bank), this market isn't particularly popular with tourists.

Indeed, the Khlong Lat Mayom floating market is beloved by locals who come to shop or enjoy affordable meals. The market has earned its reputation primarily for food. Beyond fresh produce, you'll find numerous typical dishes prepared on-site, either in the boats or in the stalls on the riverbank.
