Getting around Ecuador is relatively easy.
By car: Roads have been recently renovated and are generally in good condition. Renting a car, with or without a driver, gives you the freedom to explore remote areas. However, drive carefully in the mountains, where landslides can occur after heavy rain.
By bus: Buses are inexpensive, reliable, and connect major cities. Choose “Ejecutivo” class for comfortable, reclining seats and air conditioning. Keep in mind that buses rarely reach remote villages or hiking areas.
By train: The railway network is limited, but taking a short train ride can be a beautiful way to admire the scenery.
By boat: In the Amazon or around the Galápagos Islands, boats are an essential and charming mode of transport.
