The Butterfly Farm was built in the Jasmine Valley, in the town of Kep in southern Cambodia. It is easy to find, located just 45 minutes from Kep National Park. As one of the city’s newer attractions, a visit to this farm is a must. You'll discover a myriad of colorful butterflies in a beautiful garden setting.
Overview
The Kep Butterfly Farm is a private ecological garden, owned by Americans, dedicated to preserving the local environment. It was also created to provide employment for Cambodians by training them in butterfly farming while supporting the export market.
As you enter the butterfly farm, you’ll walk through a lush garden filled with various flowers, leading to the main structure—a well-maintained shelter at the center of the grounds. The staff are warm and welcoming, and they will guide you through the process of raising caterpillars, understanding their life cycle, and witnessing their transformation into butterflies. Visitors are welcome to take photos of these beautiful creatures, with over 35 species recorded on-site.
What to do
Beyond learning all about butterflies, visitors can enjoy the peaceful and inviting atmosphere of the farm. You’ll also learn how the caterpillars are preserved and cared for.
From the farm, guests can take a bike or motorbike ride, or hike along the trail that connects to Kep National Park. The farm is suitable for visitors of all ages, offering both an educational and engaging experience. The staff are trained to adapt their tours to all types of visitors.
This makes the Kep Butterfly Farm a great destination for a family outing—children will especially love the chance to walk freely among the vibrant butterflies in this interactive, outdoor classroom.
