Discovery of Lomé
After breakfast, we embark on a tour of the city of Lomé, the cheerful capital of Togo where modernity and tradition blend together.
At the large Assiganmé market, we discover the Nana Benz, famous traders of printed fabrics.
The craft market is the ideal place to buy souvenirs. The discerning visitor can discover valuable items there and can observe artisans at work: batik, wood carving, engraving, weaving, …
Finally, the fetish market opens the doors to traditional pharmacopoeia.
Lomé is also home to great monuments such as Liberty Square, Independence Square and its famous national arts museum. We don't forget to take a tour around the fishing port, where fishermen are always present.
Kpalimé and the Kloto Region
We then head to Kpalimé, northwest of Lomé, along the border with Ghana. The Kpalimé region is the green paradise of Togo, and our stay here will easily convince us of it. Lush plateaus, jungles, waterfalls, nature lovers will be delighted!
We settle in and spend the night on the edge of the beautiful Kloto forest, about ten kilometers from the city.
Kloto Forest
Hiking exploration of the Kloto forest. This is where most of the products sold in Lomé come from. In particular: fruits, yams, palm nuts. Other forest riches: coffee and cocoa. But the forest is also home to animal species. We pay special attention to insects and butterflies, accompanied by a specialist.
Free afternoon with the possibility of taking dance and djembé lessons.
A Day in Kpalimé
We remain today in the city of Kpalimé, whose many attractions we explore. A region of coffee and cocoa, Kpalimé is located in a natural environment of great beauty surrounded by hills with thick woods and deep valleys. The Agou peak (the highest summit in Togo) is covered with dense forests and dotted with small villages. Many natural waterfalls allow you to cool off by the water. Kpalimé is also the country's most important craft center where a very large number of artists and craftspeople have settled: wood sculptors, batik makers, potters, weavers, calabash makers, …
With the permission of the local inhabitants, we venture into the coffee and cocoa fields of the region. A nice way to see the pleasure people experience in transforming local products. Return and overnight in Kpalimé.
Atakpamé, the mountain refuge
Daye → Atakpamé
We are heading today towards Atakpamé.
Atakpamé is a prosperous town perched on a hill and which completes the coffee-cocoa triangle formed by Kpalimé, Badou and Atakpamé. Once, the town was a mountainous refuge. Later, during German colonization, the town became an agricultural and administrative centre. With a bit of luck, you can witness a tchébé dance performance on stilts. It is one of the most famous dances in Togo and one of the region's specialties.
The central market is located around the town's main square. When night falls, the square becomes more lively and buyers as well as visitors walk to the beat of music.
At the Nangbéto dam, located not far from the town, we can observe hippopotamuses.
Badou and the Akrowa Falls
After breakfast, we set off on an excursion to Badou. Very close to Atakpamé, the small town of Badou nestles in a green and fertile valley surrounded by wooded hills and coffee plantations on hillsides. The inhabitants of Badou are almost all planters or merchants, and agriculture is the main subject of conversation.
Upon arrival in Badou, we set out to discover the coffee plantations and its inhabitants. The afternoon is dedicated to a visit of the Akrowa waterfall, one of the wonders of Togo, for an unforgettable swim. A 100m waterfall of milky water that plunges from a granite cliff into a basin deep within the forest. You have the impression of discovering the world when arriving in the secluded ravine at the base of the fall.
Return to Atakpamé for the night.
Sokodé
After breakfast, we set off very early heading north. We pass through Kamina before arriving at our destination for the day, Sokodé.
Sokodé is one of the largest cities in Togo. It is an administrative center where the Kotokolis, Muslims whose clothing reminds of North Africa, live in the majority. The men wear large boubous and the women wear veils over magnificent colorful outfits. Local music and dances are not found anywhere else in Togo. During the knife festival, the streets fill with traditional music and dances.
Visit and discovery of certain private houses (warriors' tombs) to which regular offerings are still made.
In the evening, traditional celebration and fire dance with the Tem population.
Safari and Kabyê Culture
This morning we are heading near Kara for a safari in the Sarakawa wildlife reserve, created to preserve the country's heritage. It is an enclosure of approximately 50,000 hectares where you can spot many birds on the park's water bodies as well as zebras, antelopes and hartebeest.
A city in full expansion, Kara is at the heart of visiting Northern Togo. It is here that you find one of the largest ethnic groups in Togo, the Kabyés or "farmers of stone", because they practice agriculture on rocky terrain.
The Kabyés have made the region an important agricultural center where yam, cotton, and peanuts are cultivated, and where mangoes and other fruits are found. Their houses, called soukala, are a cluster of huts surrounded by an enclosure wall where only a single patriarchal family lives.
Discovery of the grueling work of blacksmiths, who here use large stones instead of hammers. The women produce clay pots, which we will also learn to shape. Visit to one of the colorful markets, where the aromas of food blend with the vapors of millet beer.
The caves of Dapaong
We set our course today towards the savanna region. A walking tour on a cliff and visit to a large cave, nestled in the cliff face, which contains ancient constructions and clay granaries. It was here that entire villages found refuge from the raids of slave traders. Indeed, the cave offers an unparalleled view over all the surrounding savanna.
We arrive at the far north of the country in the city of Dapaong, where we settle in at the hotel.
Return to Lomé
The day is dedicated to the long journey back to Lomé, a trip punctuated by numerous stops to admire the magnificent landscapes of the country. With a bit of luck, we may witness a cultural event along the way, accompanied by the lively traditional rhythms of the country.
We arrive in Lomé and settle into our hotel by the sea. In the evening we attend a cultural show and enjoy pleasant moments of sharing on the hotel's private beach.
Slavery Remnants and Return Flight
This morning we visit Agbodrafo, a former Portuguese city turned into a peaceful small town nestled between Lake Togo and the ocean. A former slave trading port located 30 kilometers from Lomé, it was recognized as part of the "Slave Coast". You can discover some remnants of this past such as the slave house (Woold Home) or the well of the chained. The emotion is still vivid in this place.

Passeport
Pour entrer au Togo, votre passeport doit être valide au minimum six mois après la date d'entrée dans le pays et comporter au moins une page vierge pour les tampons d'immigration.

Visa
Les ressortissants de l'Espace économique européen, de la Suisse et du Canada doivent obtenir un visa pour entrer au Togo. Ce visa peut être obtenu selon deux modalités :
le visa électronique (e-visa), à demander en ligne avant le départ sur le portail officiel des autorités togolaises,
le visa à l'arrivée, disponible à l'aéroport international Gnassingbé Eyadéma de Lomé, sous réserve de remplir les conditions requises.
Le visa touristique est généralement accordé pour un séjour pouvant aller jusqu'à 30 jours, avec la possibilité d'une prolongation auprès des services d'immigration togolais.
Les autorités peuvent demander :
un billet de sortie du territoire (vol retour ou continuation),
une preuve de ressources financières suffisantes pour la durée du séjour,
une réservation d'hébergement.
Certificat de vaccination contre la fièvre jaune
La présentation d'un certificat international de vaccination contre la fièvre jaune est obligatoire pour entrer au Togo. Ce document doit être valide et conforme aux normes de l'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS).
Il est recommandé de vous munir de ce certificat avant votre départ, car son absence peut entraîner un refus d'entrée sur le territoire ou une mise en quarantaine à l'arrivée.
Santé
En dehors de la vaccination contre la fièvre jaune, il est conseillé de consulter un médecin ou un centre de vaccination avant le départ. D'autres vaccinations peuvent être recommandées selon votre situation personnelle (hépatites A et B, typhoïde, méningite, etc.).
Le Togo est un pays à risque palustre : un traitement antipaludéen préventif est fortement recommandé. L'utilisation de répulsifs et de moustiquaires imprégnées est également conseillée.
Voyage avec des enfants
Les mineurs doivent être titulaires de leur propre passeport valide couvrant la durée du séjour, ainsi que d'un visa en cours de validité.
Dans certains pays européens, lorsqu'un mineur voyage sans l'un de ses parents, une autorisation de sortie du territoire peut être exigée selon la réglementation du pays de résidence.
