Day-by-day itinerary
Kpalimé and the Kloto Region
We take a stroll through the largest market in the city to meet the Nana Benz, female traders of Vlisco fabrics and valuable jewelry. Lomé is also home to great monuments such as Liberty Square, Independence Square and its famous fetish market.
We then head to Kpalimé, northwest of Lomé, along the border with Ghana. The Kpalimé region is the green paradise of Togo, and our stay here will easily convince us of it. Lush plateaus, jungles, waterfalls, nature lovers will be delighted!
We settle in and spend the night on the edge of the beautiful Kloto forest, about ten kilometers from the city.
The Kloto Forest
Walking exploration of the Kloto forest. This is where most of the products sold in Lomé come from. In particular: fruits, yams, palm nuts. Other forest resources: coffee and cocoa. But the forest is also home to animal species. We pay special attention to insects and butterflies, accompanied by a specialist.
Free afternoon with the possibility of taking dance and djembe lessons.
Plein Nord
Crossing through the central regions of Togo, inhabited by populations originally from the North who faithfully preserve their unchanging traditions, including the style of habitat construction.
Sokodé is one of the largest cities in Togo. It is an administrative center where the Kotokolis, Muslims whose clothing is reminiscent of North Africa, live in the majority. The men wear long boubous and the women wear veils over magnificent brightly colored outfits. Local music and dances are not found anywhere else in Togo. During the knife festival, the streets fill with music and traditional dances.
In the evening, traditional celebration and fire dance with the Tem population.
Bassar, the Blacksmiths
This morning we head northwest for a first stop in Bassar. The Bassar are the pioneers of the iron civilization in this part of Africa. Meet and visit with chiefs who, in their large clay houses, address community issues.
In Kabyé Country
A city in full expansion, Kara is at the heart of visiting Northern Togo. It is here that one of the most numerous ethnic groups in Togo is found, the Kabyés or "stone farmers" because they practice agriculture on rocky terrain.
The Kabyés have made the region an important agricultural center where yams, cotton, peanuts are grown, and where mangoes and other fruits are found. Their houses called Soukala are a group of huts united by an enclosing wall where only a single patriarchal family lives.
Meeting and exchanges with craftsmen, particularly blacksmiths. Possibility of attending in July each year the traditional festivals Evala, initiation festival.
We also make a stop next to Kara in the Sarakawa fauna and flora reserve, created to preserve the country's heritage. It is an enclosure of approximately 50,000 hectares where you can see many birds on the park's bodies of water as well as zebras, kobs and even hartebeest.
The Far North of Togo
We are now heading towards the savanna region. A walking tour on a cliff and visit to a large cave, nestled in the cliff face, which contains ancient constructions and clay granaries. This is where entire villages found refuge from slave trader raids. Indeed, the cave offers an unparalleled view over the entire surrounding savanna.
We arrive at the far north of the country in the city of Dapaong, where we settle into the hotel.
The Moba Country
Visit of small Moba villages with clay houses, circular in shape, with conical straw roofs. A wall surrounds and protects the huts of the same family. It is an impressionist painting that unfolds before the traveler's gaze where, depending on the season, green or yellowish color are dotted by small human concentrations. From time to time, you encounter Peul herders, true nomads, to whom sedentary populations entrust their herds of zebu.
We also visit the caves and granaries of Nano and Maproug nestled in the hollow of the cliff and admire the rock paintings of Namoudjoga, created by ancestors living here thousands of years ago.
Return to Lomé
The day is dedicated to the long drive back to Lomé, a journey punctuated by numerous stops to admire the magnificent landscapes of the country. With a bit of luck, we may witness a cultural event along the way, accompanied by the uplifting traditional rhythms of the country.
We arrive in Lomé and settle into our hotel by the sea. In the evening we enjoy a cultural entertainment and spend pleasant moments of sharing on the hotel's private beach.
Excursion to the Times of Slavery and Return Flight
This morning we visit Agbodrafo, a former Portuguese town that has become a quiet little city nestled between Lake Togo and the ocean. A former slave trading port located 30 kilometers from Lomé, it has been recognized as part of the "Slave Coast". We discover some vestiges of this past there such as the slave house or the well of the chained. Emotion is still vivid in this place.

Registration is considered firm and final after payment of a deposit of 30% of the total price and acceptance of the specific terms of sale.
The balance must be paid no later than 45 days before the departure date.

Passport
To enter Togo, your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months after the date of entry into the country and must contain at least one blank page for immigration stamps.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn, or altered pages).
Visa
Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and Canada must obtain a visa to enter Togo. This visa can be obtained through two methods:
the electronic visa (e-visa), which must be requested online before departure through the official Togolese authorities portal,
the visa on arrival, available at Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport in Lomé, subject to meeting the required conditions.
The tourist visa is generally granted for a stay of up to 30 days, with the possibility of an extension through Togolese immigration services.
Authorities may request:
an exit ticket from the territory (return flight or onward journey),
proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay,
an accommodation booking.
Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
Presentation of an international yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry to Togo. This document must be valid and comply with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
It is recommended that you obtain this certificate before departure, as its absence may result in entry denial or quarantine upon arrival.
Health
Apart from yellow fever vaccination, it is advisable to consult a doctor or vaccination center before departure. Other vaccinations may be recommended depending on your personal situation (hepatitis A and B, typhoid, meningitis, etc.).
Togo is a malaria-risk country: antimalarial preventive treatment is strongly recommended. The use of insect repellents and insecticide-treated mosquito nets is also advised.
Traveling with Children
Minors must hold their own valid passport covering the duration of the stay, as well as a valid visa.
In certain European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an exit authorization from the territory may be required according to the regulations of the country of residence.
