Welcome to the Langhe
Your trip begins as soon as you arrive in Turin. From the airport, easily reach Alba by train and gradually leave the city behind to discover the landscapes of Piedmont, between countryside, small villages, hills and the first vineyards of the Langhe.
Upon arrival, the historic center of Alba is just a few steps away. Take time to stroll between Piazza Duomo, Via Vittorio Emanuele and medieval alleyways, dotted with ancient towers, charming shops and delightful restaurants. Here, gastronomy is king: prestigious wines, local products and of course the famous white truffle invite you to fully experience the Piedmontese art of living.
EASY WALK THROUGH THE VINEYARDS OF THE PIEDMONT HILLS
In the morning take a bus to Barolo (20 mins)
Follow your guide on a circular 11 km route between Barolo and La Morra, crossing the wine-growing landscape inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list where Nebbiolo grapes have been cultivated for centuries to produce one of Italie's most famous wines. As you climb towards La Morra, you will encounter the famous Barolo Chapel, originally built in 1914 as a shelter for vineyard workers, then transformed in 1999 into a vibrant contemporary art work by Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett, thanks to the visionary patronage of the Ceretto family.
Enjoy a visit to the village and lunch in La Morra, a hilltop town long linked to the wine traditions of the Langhe. On your return to Barolo, choose between exploring the WiMu Wine Museum in the medieval Barolo Castle, or enjoying a cellar visit and tasting at L'Astemia Pentita or Marchesi di Barolo, one of the region's most renowned producers.

Discover the villages of Langhe Monferrato Roero
A day in the Langhe unfolds among rolling vineyards, medieval villages perched on hillsides, and the scents of one of Italy's most famous wine regions. From the heights of La Morra, the landscape opens like a living tapestry of vines, geometric patterns shaped by centuries of viticulture. This is the heart of Barolo country, where Nebbiolo has been cultivated since at least the Middle Ages and refined over time by monastic communities, noble families, and generations of farmers who transformed these slopes into a cultural landscape protected by UNESCO.
Castiglione Falletto stands at the center of the Barolo zone, its compact medieval village still dominated by the imposing silhouette of its castle. These fortresses, scattered throughout the Langhe, once served as strategic viewpoints overlooking rival territories; today, they are guardians of tradition, often housing wine cellars, tasting rooms, and small museums. Nearby, Grinzane Cavour is home to one of the region's most emblematic castles, the residence of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, one of the founding fathers of Italy, who also played a crucial role in modernizing Piedmont's wine production. Inside the castle, exhibitions tell centuries of rural life and the evolution of local vineyards, from small family plots to internationally renowned estates.
The villages themselves invite unhurried wandering. Paved alleyways lead to panoramic terraces; small enotecas offer tastings of Barolo, Barbaresco, and other local wines; and traditional trattorias showcase the region's deep culinary roots with dishes such as tajarin, brasato al Barolo, and hazelnut desserts made with the precious Tonda Gentile delle Langhe. Between the vineyards stand ancient chapels, family cellars, and farms that evoke the region's agricultural past and its continued devotion to craftsmanship.
If you have time and a car, you can venture to nearby sites such as the Barolo Wine Museum, the beautifully preserved medieval fortress of Serralunga d'Alba, or the gentle trails connecting villages through vineyards and hazelnut groves.
The Langhe can be explored in several ways, by car for panoramic views, by e-bike for a leisurely journey through the hills, or on foot along well-marked trails that reveal the slower rhythms of rural life.
Barolo Castle
After a short car transfer, you begin your hike at Castiglione d'Alba, a very charming small town that overlooks the Talloria Valley. You walk towards one of the region's emblems, the majestic Barolo Castle, where the famous grand cru wine is produced. A few kilometers further, you arrive at Novello, perched above the valley. A small visit to its viewpoint allows you to better appreciate and understand the region's topography.
Your steps lead you finally to Monforte d'Alba, a small town whose historical charm invariably delights visitors. You are charmed by its charming streets and ancient buildings. You settle into your hotel, ready to relax after a full day. Tonight, dinner is included, giving you the opportunity to savor local specialties in a friendly atmosphere.
Wine tasting in Serralunga d'Alba
At the beginning of the day, you walk through the countryside, dotted with fields and pretty chapels, towards the superb village of Serralunga d'Alba. Its castle is particularly beautiful, perched on a small hill overlooking the village and the surrounding vineyards. You enjoy a long time in this haven of peace outside of time by visiting a wine cellar where you can taste local specialties.
You return to Monforte and spend the night in the same hotel, enjoying a relaxing evening after a full day.
In the Belbo Valley
Monforte d'Alba → Cerreto Langhe
The day begins with a short car transfer to Cerreto Langhe, where you visit the charming village church. You take time to admire its architecture and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this place.
Your last hike in this region of the Haute Langhe is very varied. You cross hazelnut fields, woods, rivers and valleys, climbing and descending through this beautiful Piedmont countryside. You pass notably by the tower Torre Bormida as well as by the charming village of Bergolo, typical of the region. The endpoint of your walk is Cortemilia, an old Roman town that you can freely visit.
Finally, at the end of your wanderings, you will be transferred by car to Asti, where you will settle for the night. You take advantage of this last evening to rest and recall the highlights of your adventure.

The information below concerns travelers who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and Canada traveling to Italy for a tourist stay. As entry rules may change, we recommend verifying the information with the official authorities before your departure.
Passport and ID card
Italy is a member of the European Union and part of the Schengen area. Nationals of the EEA can enter Italy with a valid passport or national ID card. The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn, or altered pages).
Swiss nationals, although not EU members, benefit from bilateral agreements allowing them to enter Italy with a valid ID card or passport.
Canadian nationals must hold a valid passport for the entire duration of their stay. It is recommended that it remain valid for at least three months after the scheduled departure date from the Schengen area.
Tourist stay without visa
Nationals of the EEA and Switzerland benefit from freedom of movement within the European area and are not subject to any duration restrictions for their tourist stays in Italy.
Canadian nationals benefit from visa exemption for tourist stays in the Schengen area. This exemption allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period, across all Schengen countries combined. Beyond this duration, a long-stay visa is required.
ETIAS travel authorization
As of the entry into force of the European system, Canadian nationals will be required to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) authorization before any travel to the Schengen area, of which Italy is part.
This electronic authorization, distinct from a visa, must be requested online before departure. It will be linked to the traveler's passport and is generally valid for several years. We recommend verifying the status of this system with the official authorities before your departure.
Travel with children
Minors must hold their own valid travel document (passport or, for EEA nationals, national ID card).
In some countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an exit authorization from the territory may be required according to the regulations of the country of residence.
Other nationalities
Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travelers concerned should inquire with the embassy or consulate of Italy in their country of residence.
