From Metzeral to the refuge: First hike towards the Vosges lakes
Meet at 11:15 AM with your Captain Martin and the rest of the group, in front of the Metzeral train station.
After a quick briefing, you set off directly on a hike from the station forecourt. You begin your route between villages, meadows and orchards, before gradually climbing into the forests and then onto the chaumes, these large open expanses created by cattle grazing. Your goal for the day: reach a first lake and gain some altitude.
A "pure" Alsatian, Captain Martin knows the Vosges massif like the back of his hand. Along the way, he passionately tells you about the history of this region and its special features. You take a picnic break in the heart of the forest, then continue on to the lake.
In the late afternoon, you arrive at the mountain refuge. The evening unfolds all together around Alsatian gastronomy: at aperitif time, you share a tarte flambée, before tasting a baeckaoffa or goulash prepared by the neighboring inn. A pleasant time of conviviality after this first day of hiking.

Vosges ridges, lakes and panoramas over Alsace
After a good night's rest in the shelter, you start the day with a breakfast based on local cheeses and the famous kougelhopf, an emblematic pastry of the region.
You then prepare your bags and picnic together, before setting off on the day's hike. After a brief stop at another lake, you head towards the ridges, at over 1,300 m altitude. Despite moderate elevation, the atmosphere is decidedly mountainous. From up there, the view opens onto the lake, the Vosges, the Alsatian plain and, on clear days, all the way to the Black Forest, even the Alps.
Martin then takes you on a more confidential route that he particularly enjoys, offering a wide panorama over the valley. In this region marked by three conflicts in less than a hundred years, history is rich, and your Captain takes the opportunity to share many anecdotes about the past of Alsace. You finish the day with a gradual descent towards the valley, with an arrival planned at Metzeral station around 4 PM.

Registration is considered firm and final after payment of a deposit of 30% of the total price and acceptance of the specific terms of sale.
The balance must be paid no later than 45 days before the departure date.

Accommodation – Mountain refuge
You will be welcomed in a warm mountain refuge, in the heart of nature. The refuge is staffed, heated and has everything you need for your comfort, with access to hot showers and sanitary facilities. Accommodation is in shared rooms, in dormitories.
