Sigiriya and Pidurangala

In the morning, we invite you to begin with a visit to the famous archaeological site of Sigirîya. This impressive massif, nicknamed the "Lion Rock", rises 200 meters above the village and dominates the landscape.

Accompanied by your guide, you will discover the different elements of the site: gardens and natural caves, the frescoes of the Maidens, as well as the ruins of Kasyapa's palace at the summit.

This historical site, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, owes its fame to King Kasyapa, who built his residence there in the 10th century. It is the most visited site in Sri Lanka.

We advise you to begin this visit early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds, which are particularly present at the end of the day.

If you prefer a somewhat less crowded experience, you can choose to climb Pidurangala hill, located just next to the Lion Rock. This hike, in the heart of nature, will offer you a spectacular view of Sigiriya and the Minneriya National Park.

At the summit, you can admire the ruins of an ancient monastery, Buddha statues and caves. Although this climb is less crowded during the day, it attracts large crowds at sunrise and sunset.

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to reach the summit, making sure to wear appropriate footwear as the ascent involves climbing over rocks. This outing is not recommended with young children.

After these morning discoveries, enjoy a moment of relaxation to recharge your batteries before continuing your adventure in Sri Lanka.
