Arrival in Slovénie

Upon your arrival at the airport, you pick up your rental vehicle and head west towards the magnificent Lake Bled. This first stage immerses you immediately in the peaceful and verdant atmosphere of the Julian Alps.

Along the way, if you arrive early enough, make a stop in Radovljica. Stroll through its charming historic center, visit the Beekeeping Museum and taste local specialties, such as gingerbread or artisanal chocolate.

Then head towards Bled and settle into your accommodation.

Once settled, take advantage of the late afternoon to take a first walk around the lake and admire the view of the island and the castle perched on its promontory.

Lake Bled, Living Postcard

Begin your discovery of Lake Bled by gaining altitude. Climb up to the majestic Bled Castle, a thousand-year-old fortress perched 130 meters above the turquoise lake. From its ramparts, the panorama is simply breathtaking: the island, the shimmering lake and the peaks of the Julian Alps in the background. The museum exhibitions will immerse you in the era when European nobility competed for control of this strategic location.

For lunch, enjoy the castle restaurant with stunning views or try an establishment by the lake. For those who prefer to picnic, you will find many spots by the lake where you can relax peacefully.

In the afternoon, board a traditional "pletna" boat, these unique Bled vessels, propelled by oars by the "pletnars" whose expertise has been passed down from father to son since the 16th century. On Bled Island, climb the 99 steps (a lucky tradition!) up to the Church of the Assumption to ring the wish bell – legend says your wish will come true.

For your snack, we recommend the famous "kremšnita", an airy pastry cream between two layers of crispy pastry, a recipe jealously guarded since 1953 by the Park Hotel bakery. The view of the lake in the background makes this local delicacy even more sublime.

In the evening, you can enjoy mountain trout in one of the many traditional restaurants.

Bohinj, Preserved Natural Jewel

Just 30 minutes from Bled, discover Bohinj, wilder and more authentic than its famous neighbor. Start by visiting Saint John the Baptist Church whose medieval frescoes tell fascinating stories. A stroll along the crystal-clear shores will allow you to appreciate the majestic calm of this site nestled in the embrace of the mountains.

Another suggestion is to take a walk to the Savica Waterfall. After a 20-minute hike through lush forest, discover this emblematic waterfall that jets spectacularly from a crack in the cliff face. A source of inspiration for many Slovenian poets.

At lunchtime, take the Vogel cable car which will propel you to 1535m altitude in just a few minutes. The contrast is striking: at the bottom the deep blue lake, at the top the immensity of the Julian Alps. Up there, a typical meal awaits you with breathtaking views. To digest, we suggest you explore the marked trails that take you through flowery alpine meadows and pine forests, where the scent of resin mingles with the pure mountain air.

Back in Bled, enjoy a traditional dinner in a "gostilna" (inn) where simmered dishes recall the recipes of Slovenian grandmothers.

Between caves, castles and Slovenian forests

Leave the Bled region in the morning and head towards Postojna. Start your day with a must-see visit to the famous Postojna Cave, a true underground masterpiece and one of Slovénie's most iconic attractions. Board a small train that takes you through a spectacular network of galleries, vast halls, and impressive limestone formations. Admire the stalactites and stalagmites sculpted by nature over millennia and discover the cave's unique wildlife, including the mysterious "proteus," nicknamed the "baby dragon."

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where you can taste Slovenian specialties such as mushroom soup, "žlikrofi" (local ravioli) or game-based dishes.

After lunch, visit the fascinating Predjama Castle, an architectural masterpiece unique in the world. This medieval castle, perched on a clifftop and integrated into a cave, seems straight out of a fairy tale. A walk around the castle also offers an opportunity to appreciate the wild beauty of the surrounding nature, making this visit as enriching as it is inspiring.

End your day with a unique and memorable adventure: brown bear watching in their natural habitat. Accompanied by a passionate and experienced guide, you will be driven by jeep through a preserved forest to the observation point. After a short walk, you will settle into a wooden cabin discreetly nestled in nature. There, in absolute silence, you may have the chance to see these majestic animals move freely in their environment. While the appearance of bears is not guaranteed, the experience of this immersion in the heart of Slovenian nature, between serenity and wonder, will remain engraved in your memory.

After lunch, head to Idrija, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its mercury mine, one of the largest in the world. Dive into the fascinating history of this operation by visiting the underground galleries and discovering the techniques used to extract mercury. This visit offers a unique insight into Slovenian industrial history and the lives of miners.

Idrija is also famous for its traditional lace-making craft, a skill passed down through generations. Visit the Idrija Lace Centre to discover this delicate art and admire unique pieces. You can also meet local artisans and learn more about this emblematic tradition.

This day takes you through spectacular karst landscapes, preserved caves and unique historical sites. Between the natural beauty of Rakov Škocjan and Križna Jama, the romance of Snežnik Castle and the rich industrial and artisanal heritage of Idrija, this varied adventure will offer you complete immersion in Slovenia's treasures.
