What are the mandatory and recommended vaccines for a trip to Mozambique?
No vaccines are mandatory in Mozambique, except yellow fever if you're coming from an endemic country. Recommended vaccines include hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus, diphtheria and polio. Antimalarial treatment is strongly advised.
Mandatory vaccines
Mozambique does not require any mandatory vaccines, with the exception of yellow fever if you are arriving from a country where this disease is present. This vaccination must be carried out at least 10 days before departure.
Recommended vaccines for all travelers
- Hepatitis A: transmission through contaminated water and food
- Typhoid: high risk in rural areas
- Tetanus, diphtheria, polio: update of usual boosters
Vaccines for extended or rural stays
- Hepatitis B: recommended for long stays or at-risk situations
- Rabies: advised in case of activities involving contact with animals
Antimalarial protection
An antimalarial treatment is strongly recommended as Mozambique presents a high risk of malaria year-round. Consult a travel medicine center 4 to 6 weeks before departure.
