Which vaccinations are mandatory or recommended for a trip to Malaysia?
No vaccines are mandatory to enter Malaysia, except yellow fever for travelers from high-risk areas. Recommended vaccines include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, DTP, and Japanese encephalitis depending on the regions visited.
Mandatory vaccinations
Malaysia does not require any mandatory vaccines for English-speaking travelers. Exception: the yellow fever vaccine is required only if you are coming from a high-risk country (Africa or South America).
Recommended vaccinations
- Hepatitis A and B: protection against foodborne and blood-borne infections
- Typhoid: recommended for all stays
- DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis): update of universal vaccines
- Japanese encephalitis: advised if you travel to rural areas or during mosquito season
Local agency advice
Consult a doctor or international vaccination center 4 to 6 weeks before departure. This consultation is particularly important for extended stays or trips to rural regions of Borneo or the Malay Peninsula.
