What is the climate like in Laos?
Laos has a tropical climate with a rainy season from April to October (scorching temperatures, heavy rainfall in the south) and a dry season from November to March (milder weather, possible nighttime frosts at high altitudes).
Two distinct seasons
Laotian climate is divided into two well-marked periods:
- Rainy season (April-October): scorching temperatures and abundant rainfall, particularly intense in the southern part of the country
- Dry season (November-March): milder and more pleasant climate, with cool or even freezing nights at higher altitudes
Variations according to altitude and region
The mountainous regions of the north experience more pronounced temperature variations, with possible frost nights during the dry season. The south generally remains warmer and more humid throughout the year.
Temperature evolution
From March onwards, temperatures begin to rise, gradually announcing the return of the warm and humid season.
