Meet & Tradition in Kosovo

You will head towards Mitrovica and North, for a stroll through the most divided city in the Balkans. Since 1999, the Ibar river with its bridge has served as a border between small North Mitrovica, predominantly Serbian, and large South Mitrovica, essentially populated by Albanians.

Join a family in the city of Vushtrri for a traditional meal.

After lunch, head to the White Drin waterfall, walk up to the summit where you will reach the "Sleeping Beauty" caves for an indoor visit of the galleries sculpted over centuries by the force of water.

Head to Peja, the largest city in western Kosovo located at the foot of the mountains and Rugova gorges. Stroll through the old town and discover its well-preserved old bazaar.

Visit the Peja Ethnological Museum where you will immerse yourself in the traditional life of Kosovars in the 20th century.

You will then join your hosts in the city of Peja for a traditional dinner and an overnight stay with a Kosovar family. You will learn about the lives of its inhabitants and discover their hospitality.

After breakfast, visit the Patriarchal Monastery of Peja, one of the strongholds of Orthodox religion in the region. Admire its numerous frescoes well preserved as well as the calm and serene atmosphere present in this place.

Continue towards Kuqishte from where you will begin a hike in the Albanian Alps.

You will reach a guesthouse located in the mountain village of Reka e Allages where you meet a local couple and learn about their culture and traditions.

Lunch at your hosts' home whose traditional food was elected "Best traditional food in the region" then take a stroll around the village with your hosts.

Head towards Visoki Dečani Monastery. Monument dating from the 14th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, you will be able to admire its frescoes which constitute one of the highlights of Serbian art, powerfully inspired by Byzantine art, particularly by the Church of the Holy Savior in Constantinople.

Finally head towards the village of Junik known for its many Kulas (traditional Albanian house). Reach a Kula for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive through charming villages to reach Radoniqi Lake, Kosovo's second largest lake, and enjoy a coffee overlooking the lake.

Continue to Gjakova, a charming town in Kosovo with its authentic old town center and many artisanal shops.

Meet local artisans (subject to availability) who practice crafts that no longer exist in Western Europe.

You will discover makers of "Plis" (traditional Albanian hat), of "diep" (wooden cradles) as well as Albanian seamstresses.

Lunch in Gjakova.

Continue your journey to the village of Velika Hoca, a Serbian enclave in the heart of Kosovo.

Meet a family whose wine production dates back to the thirteenth century. Discover the life of this family and learn the history of this small village with its 12 Orthodox churches. You will join the family's vineyards to learn more about local wine production.

Dinner at your hosts' while tasting several wines and rakias from their production.

Overnight stay in Velika Hoca.

After breakfast, join an organic cheese factory and discover the Sharr cheese-making process. You visit the farm with its animals then you will proceed to cheese tasting and local products.

Join Prizren, cultural and historical capital of Kosovo. Surrounded by mountainous landscapes, discover the old Ottoman center of the city where the Lumbardhi river flows. Its paved streets and tea salons in the old bazaar give Prizren a unique Ottoman charm.

You will visit three religious buildings located nearby: the Mosque of Sinan Pacha, the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George and the Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Also visit the Albanian League of Prizren, the first league for the defense of Albanian rights established at the end of the 19th century.

Possibility to visit a filigree workshop, traditional Albanian jewelry with origins in ancient Egypt.

Free time to visit the Prizren Fortress for a breathtaking view of the city.

After breakfast, drive through magnificent mountain roads and reach the Marble Caves or Gadime Cave.

Discover an underground world of breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites and aragonites, which were formed over 200 million years ago. Blue, red, white and yellow elements abound along the ceilings, walls and floors of the cave, offering an extraordinary experience.

You will head towards the "Bear Sanctuary" or "Pristina Bear Sanctuary", a park where many bears that were held captive in private restaurants in Kosovo and Albania were released.

Go to Novo Brdo Fortress located on the heights of a plateau offering a splendid panoramic view of the region. (4-hour hike possible for a group limited to 20 people).

Finally head to Kukaj, a small village rebuilt as it was originally located in the mountains where you will enjoy a traditional Albanian meal such as Flija (traditional pie).

After breakfast, head to Janjevo, an abandoned Croatian village.

Set off on a tour that will trace the history of the Croatian community that settled in Janjevo in the 14th century. It was an important economic hub for Croats who worked alongside Saxons in the Novo Brdo and Kopaonik mines.

Visit Ulpiana, the largest archaeological site in the country which spans 33 hectares. It houses the remains of a Roman city founded by Emperor Trajan at the turn of the 1st century AD.

Lunch in a traditional Serbian restaurant in Gračanica, a Serbian village located 10 minutes from Pristina.

Visit the Gračanica Monastery listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site then drop off your bags in your beautiful hotel with its outdoor swimming pool for your last night in Kosovo.

After breakfast, free time at your hotel in Pristina until your transfer to the airport for your return flight.
