The spirit of travel
This two-week circuit introduces you to the beauty of Ladakhi landscapes as well as the richness of the culture of this exotic place, also known as the "Little Tibet". It is a vast high-altitude desert offering superb panoramas of the mountains where a few small villages stand out. The itinerary includes a trek of seven days, relatively easy, offering a memorable experience through very beautiful landscapes. Many stops in villages and monasteries allow for a better understanding of the people and their culture.
We begin our journey with a flight (which fills us with awe at the sight of the great Himalayan mountain range and its snow-capped peaks) from Delhi to Leh (3,500 m), the capital of Ladakh, where we spend two days visiting Buddhist monasteries and exploring local markets and its villages - time to acclimatize to life at altitude. The trek begins from Taru, a small village near Leh, where we cross Taru La, a pass at 4,200 m, and a desert plateau. We cross small villages of Ladakh to observe a traditional way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries. It is a classic trek that will allow us to discover the magnificent landscapes of this part of the Himalayan lands, high snow-capped peaks, wild and barren hillsides as well as pretty villages in the valleys that come back to life as summer approaches, with the cultivation of harvests after a long and harsh winter.

Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Airport transfer to catch a flight to Leh
This morning, we fly over the Himalayan range heading towards Leh. We are treated to a breathtaking view of the mountain range, its gigantic glaciers and peaks. We then discover the fertile valleys of Leh, shaped by the imposing Indus river. Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and acclimatize to the altitude (3500m). In the late afternoon, we will take an orientation walk through the colorful bazaars of Leh, which was an important trading center along the ancient Silk Road from China. The city is dominated by the Namgyal Palace, composed of nine stories, whose faded grandeur has been compared to a mini-version of the Potala Palace in Lhassa. Overnight at the hotel.
Note: The welcome dinner will be organized at a local restaurant, preferably Tibetan Kitchen (or a similar restaurant), a restaurant offering delicious dishes.
Today, we embark on a heritage walk in the old town preserved by the Tibetan Heritage Fund to maintain the old town and its historic buildings. The walk lasts over two hours and is accompanied by an experienced local guide who shares information about important historic buildings restored by the THF. The walks aim to recognize the community that lives here and to illustrate their hopes and aspirations for the revitalization of the old town. The old town continues to bear witness to the grandeur of the artistic heritage and cultural legacy that once characterized Ladakh but are largely forgotten today.
In the afternoon, we visit RAC with a local guide. The REWA organization was founded in 2007 in Leh (Ladakh) by parents of children with disabilities and other citizens of the region who became aware of the dire need of Ladakh's special children. The REWA organization was born from an initiative by the German NGO Ladakh-Hilfe. Every day, the RAC Leh therapist discovers new activities for the children in the afternoon before they return home. It is not easy to find activities that all children can participate in due to their different levels of ability. We will see how RAC staff helps children with disabilities develop their skills. The duration of the visit depends on how long we wish to stay. Generally, 2 hours would be sufficient to complete this visit. After the visit, the rest of the evening is free at leisure.
The heritage walk would start at 10 am and end at 12:30 pm.
Note: This establishment (RAC) can be visited from 10 am to 4 pm.

Leh → Likir
Transfer to the Phyang bridge from here we walk to this magnificent Phyang monastery. After spending some time at the monastery and admiring the superb view of the local village and its surroundings from the top of the monastery, we continue our route to Likir. We visit the Likir monastery built on an ancient Gompa. It is one of the most important monasteries in Ladakh. Later, we can walk to the village of Likir to spend the night.

Likir - Sumbo - Yangthang (3650 m)
Likir → Yangthang
After breakfast, we begin our hike towards Yangtang via a small village of Sumdo (2 to 3 houses only), which provides access to a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The walk is on a rough jeep road with barely any traffic. We cross the small Charatse La pass (3,700 m) to reach Yangtang. The village fields are visible from the summit and, before harvest, the entire region looks like an oasis suspended in the air. We reach our camp set up either near the village school or by the riverside.

It was founded recently in the 19th century by a monk from Saspol, Tsulrim Nyima, whose ashes are preserved in a large chorten. Visit of this sacred place where about forty monks live. Today, we follow the trail to the village of Hemis Shukpachen, surrounded by ancient "hedges" of chorten (stupa). Cypress trees, rare in Ladakh, mark the end of the fields. Upon your arrival at Hemis Shukpachen, leave your backpack with a local resident and then take a walk through this beautiful small village that stretches over a vast territory, then attend a cooking demonstration. The locals welcome you warmly to experience the unique hospitality that prevails in the mountains. The interior decoration of the house is extremely beautiful. After observing the complete cooking process, we will taste the delicious dishes prepared.

After a short steep descent to the base, Meptek La looks like a wall ahead, but it can be climbed in half an hour by a slow walk. Our hard work pays off with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains from the summit. A gradual 90-minute descent through the village of Ang leads us to Themisgam, a prosperous village, where we visit a castle. Our camp is in the middle of this beautiful village.

Leh - Shey, Thikse and Hemis
In the morning, we take a guided tour of the three main gompas (monasteries) in the region. We start with Shey, an ancient Royal Palace of the kings of Ladakh. Shey was once the castle of the first king of Ladakh, Lachen Polgyigon. Inside the building is a small temple, which houses a gilded copper statue representing Buddha. It was erected by Deldan Namgyal in the year 1633, as a funeral memorial in honor of his father, King Singee Namgyal.
Next, we head to the Thikse Monastery, which belongs to the Gelupka school (yellow hats). Perched at the top of a hill, its red and white buildings are visible for kilometers. A new temple has been designed within the complex, and houses a magnificent representation of the Future Buddha.
Then, we continue with a visit to the Hemis Monastery belonging to the Drupka school (red hats). This monastery distinguishes itself from other Gompas in Ladakh not only by its size, but also by its rich collection of ancient relics and 17th-century wall ornaments. The site is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn or altered pages).
Tourist Visa – e-Visa (Tourist eVisa)
Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada must be in possession of a valid visa to enter India. There is no visa exemption for a tourist stay.
The most common solution is the Tourist eVisa, available online on the official Indian government portal. It is available for several durations:
Tourist eVisa 30 days (double entry),
Tourist eVisa 1 year (multiple entries, maximum stay of 90 days per visit),
Tourist eVisa 5 years (multiple entries, maximum stay of 90 days per visit).
The application must be submitted online at least 4 days before your arrival date and at most 120 days before. The eVisa is linked to your passport and is available only at certain designated airports and ports of entry.
Arrival and Immigration
When passing through immigration, Indian authorities may ask for:
confirmation of your eVisa (printed document or digital version),
an exit ticket from the territory (return flight or onward journey),
proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay,
the address of your first accommodation in India.
Health and Vaccinations
No vaccine is officially mandatory to enter India from the EEA, Switzerland or Canada, except in the case of transit through a country at risk of yellow fever (a yellow fever vaccination certificate will then be required).
As a preventive measure, health authorities generally recommend the following vaccinations:
hepatitis A and hepatitis B,
typhoid,
tetanus-poliomyelitis,
rabies (depending on planned activities),
Japanese encephalitis (depending on regions and length of stay).
Antimalarial treatment may be recommended depending on the regions you visit and the time of year. Consult a doctor or international vaccination center before your departure.
Traveling with Children
Minors must be holders of their own valid passport and their own eVisa covering the duration of the stay.
In certain European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an exit authorization from the territory may be required according to the regulations of their country of residence.
Other Nationalities
Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travelers concerned should inquire with the Indian embassy or consulate in their country of residence.
