What is the climate in India?
India features two distinct climates: Northern India enjoys a pleasant season from November to March, followed by scorching summers (40-45°C) and monsoons from June to September. Southern India follows a similar pattern with regional variations.
Northern India's Climate
The most pleasant season extends from mid-November to late March, corresponding to Indian autumn. Notable exception: the far North such as Ladakh, where the favorable season runs from mid-May to late October.
Summer brings heat and humidity that are difficult to bear, with temperatures reaching 40 to 45°C in the Ganges Plain. The monsoon from June to September causes heavy rainfall and maintains high temperatures. This period can lead to floods and landslides, causing transport delays.
In winter, temperatures can drop below 0°C in December.
Southern India's Climate
The best season runs from mid-November to late March, except in the Southeast and far South affected by late monsoons.
Desert regions (Rajasthan, Kutch, northern Gujarat) experience very hot days but cool mornings and evenings.
In May, temperatures fluctuate between 30 and 40°C. From June onwards, the monsoon brings rain and clouds from the west. The peak monsoon occurs in October-November, or even early December.
Key Points to Remember
Both regions share difficult heat and humidity during the monsoon, but with significant seasonal variations depending on the geographical area.
