OUR TRIPS ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED
Tamanrasset region, Hoggar, Tefedest, Immidir, Ahnet and Tassili du Hoggar:
Since September 2025, increased restrictions (mandatory escort in Tamanrasset) limit our camel trekking and mehara expeditions, preventing us from using the emblematic routes of Atakor and Hoggar. These constraints undermine the very essence of our expeditions, founded on freedom and adventure.
We are suspending our trips, not without bitterness. Our itineraries remain visible online, testament to these exceptional Saharan landscapes.
Tamanrasset, December 01, 2025
In 5 days of camel trekking, this itinerary invites you to discover the grandiose landscapes of the Tefedest massif, one of the most wild and pristine in the Algerian Sahara. The route first follows the vast sandy expanses that border the western flank of the massif, offering a gradual immersion into the immensity of the desert, while remaining slightly away from the mountain chain. Gradually, the caravan approaches the reliefs and enters several times between the impressive granite domes of the Tagouna and Timaqatin massifs, crossing notably the valleys of In Tounin and Ouhet.
Throughout the stages, you alternate between wide sand plains, wadis dotted with tamarisks, sandy passes and rocky cirques with spectacular formations. This mehara offers a perfect overview of the contrasting landscapes of Tefedest, where immense granite masses seem to emerge from the dunes. An authentic adventure, punctuated by the caravan, bivouacs under the stars and the discovery of a desert of breathtaking beauty.

Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Flight France > Tamanrasset
Late afternoon, direct flight Paris - Tamanrasset.
Welcome and transfer.

Tamanrasset > In Amguel > Oued Adenek
Early in the morning, departure by car along the trans-Saharan road from In Salah, we head towards the village of In Amguel

Tin Rinden > Tin Malou > Oued Abezzou

Oued Abezzou > Oued Amser
To the West, vast plains, to the East the chaos of the Téfédest… We skirt the massif, encounter a few isolated peaks and emerge before the vast depression carved by the oued Amser. Tamarisks offer us welcome shade, and the well of Amser allows us to refill our waterskins. After the rains, a large guelta forms at the foot of the dunes.

Oued In Takoufé > Téhé n'Ahar > Oued Sendider
Sandy path… After a vast plain, we cross a pass giving access to the corridor of the oued In Takouffé which cuts through the massif. The descent of the camels in the sand is an extraordinary spectacle. Facing us, the dark chain of the Téfédest and its crenellated profile.
We descend the Wadi In Takoufé for a while and take advantage of its Tamarisks, one of the rare shaded spots in the area. We follow one of its tributaries on the right bank. It gradually leads us onto a vast plateau whose slope abuts against a ridge of dunes nestled between the flanks of the massif. This is Téhé n'Ahar, the Lion's Pass.
We cross the pass, a very beautiful passage through the sand.

Timaqatin > Téhé n'Tachelin > Oued In Tounin
After a lovely bivouac in the lush Oued Sendider, we reach the Timaqatin cirque, a particularly picturesque site. Large rounded domes with smooth sides decorated with paintings from different periods of the Neolithic emerge from the sandy plain.

The Foothills of Garet el Djenoun
Let us continue northwards, we reach the sugar loaf of In Tounin, at the foot of which hides a beautiful guelta. We hug the mountain very closely after crossing the following wadis Ti Leouen and Timsenagen, we begin to glimpse the tip of the Garet El Genoun, we will then head towards one of its counter-forts to establish the last bivouac at the foot of a magnificent dune.

Return to Tamanrasset
Garet El Djenoun → Tamanrasset
Early morning departure by vehicle for the return to Tamanrasset, we rejoin the paved road at In Amguel. Meals on the way. We arrive in Tamanrasset in the afternoon.
Check-in at the guesthouse and free time for the rest of the day. Tamanrasset has become an imposing city in recent years. Only the town center, with its streets shaded by tamarisks, has retained its authentic character. Evening at a simple and comfortable guesthouse.
