The spirit of travel
Algiers, which its inhabitants call El Bahja the Joyous, is one of the most complex and fascinating cities in the Mediterranean basin. Founded in the 10th century on the ruins of the ancient Roman Icosium, shaped by the Ottomans, marked by France, reclaimed by Algeria, it carries within it all the layers of the Mediterranean. The Casbah, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most intense historic neighborhoods in North Africa: a labyrinth of alleyways, patios palaces, mosques and artisan workshops clinging to the hillside overlooking the sea.
This seven-day circuit does not stop at Algiers. It escapes toward Tipaza, one of the most spectacular Roman sites in the world, where 1st century ruins stand directly facing the Mediterranean. Albert Camus devoted some of his most beautiful pages to it. Cherchell, the ancient Caesarea, capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania, houses an archaeological museum of unsuspected richness. The Chiffa Gorges, fifty kilometers to the south, reveal unexpected nature: rushing water, limestone cliffs and wild Barbary macaques.
A journey with multiple facets: Ottoman and contemporary Algiers, Roman Algeria facing the sea, the nature of the Blida Atlas. Three registers for the same region, between sea and mountain, between Antiquity and the 21st century.

Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Arrival in Algiers and first discovery of the capital
Upon arrival at Houari-Boumédiène airport, you will receive a welcome and assistance with formalities, then a transfer to your hotel in the city center.
Enjoy a first free stroll discovering Algiers, between the seafront boulevard, the Grand Post Office and Audin square.
Free dinner in the center, an opportunity to taste some Algerian specialties such as chorba, dolmas, fish from the port and oriental pastries.

The Casbah of Algiers, the Palace of the Raïs and Notre-Dame d'Afrique
The morning is dedicated to discovering the Casbah of Algiers, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. You begin with the Citadel, the Palace of the Dey and Dar El Soltane, before exploring its narrow streets and discovering mosques, craftsmen's workshops, the Sidi Mohammed Cherif fountain, Ali la Pointe museum and Mustapha Bacha museum. Allow 3 to 4 hours for your visit.
Traditional lunch at a guesthouse in the Casbah, featuring specialties such as couscous, rechta or pastilla.
In the afternoon, you join the Palais des Raïs (Bastion 23), today a cultural center for the arts, then the Basilica of Notre-Dame d'Afrique, which overlooks the gulf and offers a beautiful view of Algiers Bay at sunset.

Algiers Cultural & Unusual - Bardo, Fine Arts and Hamma
A day dedicated to Algiers of museums, gardens and shopping streets, a lesser-known city, quieter, yet equally fascinating.
The morning begins with the Bardo National Museum, housed in an 18th-century Moorish villa built by a wealthy Tunisian exiled on the heights of Algiers. It now houses a remarkable collection of African ethnography and Saharan prehistory: unique pieces, Berber jewelry, prehistoric tools from Tassili.
Descent towards the center: visit to the National Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers, one of the richest in Africa, Orientalist paintings, European sculptures, contemporary Algerian art. Free lunch in the district.
The afternoon is dedicated to the Hamma Botanical Garden, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the Maghreb, created in 1832, avenues of hundred-year-old palms, bamboo groves, collections of tropical plants. We finish with the Didouche Mourad street and its bookstores, craft shops and cafés: unusual Algiers, that of students and intellectuals.

Tipaza & Cherchell - Roman Algeria Facing the Sea
Early morning departure heading west, 70 kilometers of Mediterranean coastline before reaching Tipaza, one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in North Africa.
Tipaza is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Roman ruins from the 1st century extend directly along the seashore—basilicas, theater, necropolis, baths—in a landscape where ancient stone mingles with wildflowers and the blue of the Mediterranean. Albert Camus, who came here to recharge, wrote memorable pages about this place. The adjacent archaeological museum houses mosaics, statues and epitaphs. A few kilometers away, the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania the tomb of Cleopatra Selene and Juba II stands alone in the plain, massive and mysterious.
Lunch on site, facing the sea.
In the afternoon, drive to Cherchell, the ancient Caesarea, capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania. Its archaeological museum is of exceptional richness: polychrome mosaics, bronzes, Roman portraits, numismatic collection. One of the most underestimated museums in Algérie.
Hotel check-in in Tipaza in late afternoon. Evening facing the sea, sunset over the ruins, dinner in the town

Coastal Return - Sidi Fredj & the West Corniche
Return to Algiers along the West Coast, a coastal road that offers a succession of coves, beaches and small harbors. Stop at Sidi Fredj, a seaside resort and well-maintained marina pleasure port, pleasant promenade. Passage through Staoueli and its agricultural plain, then Zéralda and its wild beaches.
Arrival in Algiers in early afternoon.
Free time: shopping on Didouche Mourad street, Lyre market for spices and crafts, cafés in the city center.
Algiers, in late afternoon, has a particular energy terraces fill up, the city buzzes.

Chiffa Gorges & Blida Atlas - Nature at the Gates of Algiers
50 km south of Algérie, you set off to discover the Chiffa gorges, between limestone cliffs, forests and watercourses. The road runs along the Chiffa wadi, where you can observe Barbary macaques in the wild. Waterfalls and picnicking by the water complete this break in nature.
You then stop in Blida, nicknamed "the Rose", to discover its covered market, its gardens and its central mosque.
Return to Algérie in late afternoon. Make the most of your last evening in the capital with dinner at a restaurant and a night stroll along the seafront.
