Khao Sok Paradise Resort
Treehouses and safari tents in the heart of Khao Sok National Park, 90 km from Phuket. A jungle base camp in southern Thailand's tropical wilderness.
Khao Sok Paradise Resort is a treehouse and safari tent lodge set within Khao Sok National Park, north of Surat Thani province. The address — 119 Tambon Khlong Sok, Amphoe Phanom — sets the scene: primary tropical forest, limestone cliffs and the Sok River just a few minutes' walk away. A meaningful base camp for those seeking to sleep at the jungle's heart rather than on its periphery.
Why stay here
The resort's main appeal lies in the nature of its accommodations: treehouses built on stilts, with branches literally passing through the structure. The design philosophy is deliberate — you sleep at canopy level, in a wooden frame that coexists with nature rather than against it. The staff is English-speaking (Thai, Dutch, French, English, Afrikaans), which simplifies excursion logistics and stay organization.
The atmosphere
The site is immersed in pristine tropical forest, away from the tourist concentrations of the coast. The dominant sounds are those of the jungle — gibbons at dawn, cicadas in late afternoon. The setting remains rustic and favors local materials (wood, bamboo), with modern comforts discreetly integrated: air conditioning, hot water, wi-fi. Access stairs to the treehouses are steep but solid — worth noting for guests with reduced mobility.
Accommodations
Five formats coexist on the property, all equipped with air conditioning, hot shower, mosquito net, wi-fi and television:
- Treehouse: for 2 guests, on stilts with branches integrated into the structure.
- Family treehouse: with veranda, suited for families or groups.
- Honeymoon treehouse: with additional bathtub.
- Safari tent: proper bed, private bathroom, lounge area in front of tent.
- Jungle House: ground-level huts with veranda, easier access.
Bamboo huts round out the offer. Rollaway beds are available for an additional charge.
Dining and services
The resort restaurant serves Thai and Mediterranean cuisine, accompanied by imported wines and cocktails. A Thai-Middle Eastern inspired hookah bar opens in the evening. Note: payment is cash only — bring baht before arrival as ATMs are scarce in the area.
On the services side, the resort offers free parking, laundry, currency exchange and an activities desk on-site. Paid shuttle services to the airport, coast and ferry terminals can be arranged upon request.
Location and access
The resort sits approximately 120 km from Surat Thani airport and 90 km from Phuket airport. Both options are viable; Phuket is often preferred by international travelers for flight frequency, Surat Thani for park proximity and ferry connections to Koh Samui. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours' travel from each airport depending on traffic.
When to visit
The dry season (December to April) offers the most stable conditions for trekking and excursions on Cheow Lan Lake. The outdoor pool is particularly welcome in hot season (March-May). The wet season (May to November) intensifies vegetation and waterfalls, but some trails may become slippery — verify excursion accessibility at the time of booking.
Activities and surroundings
On-site, the activities desk organizes canoeing, kayaking, trekking, cooking classes, massages, fishing and cycling trips. Essential attractions in the area include Khao Sok National Park itself, one of the planet's oldest forest ecosystems, and Cheow Lan Lake with its limestone peaks rising from emerald waters — typically visited over one to two days with nights in floating raft houses.
Going further
Khao Sok integrates well into an itinerary combining jungle and southern islands. To extend your stay, consider our suggestions at Cross River Kwai for river-based nature, or beachside at Baan Hin Sai Resort on Koh Samui. For an urban stopover in Phuket, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town or 7Q Pathong are convenient options before or after the jungle.
