Near Ulan Bator, lies the area of Terelj, with its forests of larches, its rocky formations sculpted by the elements, its tumultuous rivers and its green pastures where nomads and herds live in harmony in this exuberant nature . Spend three days with a family of the region to have a good overview of the nomadic way of life and discover, hiking or horse riding, the natural beauties of the park.

Journey to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, a real gorgeous green setting at the gates of the capital : rocky formations sculpted by erosion, mountains tree-filled with pines, plains scattered with wild flowers and edelweiss, rivers and lakes.
Stop at turtle rock, from where we walk until Aryaval Monastery.
We stay 3 nights with breeders who settled on the banks of the Tuul River. You'll discover wonderful landscapes and share the daily activities of the host family. You will be proposed many activities, such as milking the animals or making traditional dairy products.

Those who wish can leave for a ponytrek along the Tuul River to go deeper in the park. Riding our horses, we'll discover a contrasting landscape made of rivers, steppes and forests.
You will also attend the preparation of a Mongolian barbecue that you will enjoy with yours hosts.
In the morning, we can hike again, or stay with the family. We'll have lunch with the family for the last time.
Drive to the 40 meters-high equestrian statue of Genghis Khan. This statue is the tallest in the world of a man on horseback. Visit of the museum located inside the statue.
Back to Ulan-Bator. Last herds of wild horses crossing the road outside our dumbfounded eyes, last yurts smoking far away, the steppe will be with us until the last moment.

In the evening, let's get on board of the Transmongolian until Sainshand. In the train, Mongolians are the great majority of the travellers, so a "local atmosphere" is guaranteed !
Early arrival in Saishand.
Visit of Khamar Monastery. The famous Mongolian teacher and man of letters Danzanravjaa created this monastery in the 1820's. It was an important centre of the Buddhist "red sect".
North of the monastery, we will see some meditation caves.
Then, we drive towards the most sacred places in the Buddhist belief, the Shambala, entrance of an utopian world ruled by joy and harmony. This energetic centre has become a popular place of pilgrimage in Mongolia.
In the afternoon we go to Bayanzurkh mountain. Culminating at 1031 meters, this small 1031 massif is also a high place of veneration for the Mongols. The 3rd greatest lama of the Gobi, Jamiyandanzan, was buried there and many temples were erected in his memory.
A path dotted with Stupas and Ovoos leads to the summit from where we will have a 360 degree view of the Sainshand region.
Arrival at a family of camel breeders with whom we will discover Mongolian hospitality and with whom we will spend the night.

In the evening, we embark on the night train towards Ulan Bator. We spend the night on the train, in comfortable berths (one cabin for four persons). Arrival at the capital the day after.
Back to Ulan Bator, we stop by Gandantegchinlen Monastery. In the morning, lamas get together to pray. They will answer your questions at the Mongolian Buddhist Centre.
Then, journey to Khustai Reserve that houses the Przewalski horses (takh). Twilight is the best moment to observe them. We'll walk until the river where they drink, and observe them with no fear to bother.
We spend our first night in Mongolia with a nomadic family living on the edge of the national park.

Walk in the centre of Ulan-Bator. Discovery of Gengis Khan Square and the House of Parliament.
Let's immerse ourselves in the heart of the Mongolian history, in the wonderful National History Museum. Three floors of a rich, glorious, violent and noble past, from prehistory to Soviet period, including the creation of the great Mongolian Empire by Genghis Khan.
At 18 o' clock, Mongolian traditional show at Tumen Ekh: folkloric dances, contortion, and of course khoomi, the overtone singing.
