Khövsgöl lake ice festival

Since 2002, the Ice Festival takes place each year during the first weekend of March on the frozen Lake Khövsgöl.

During this traditional holiday, the inhabitants of the area of Khövsgöl and some Russian people living in the border area get together by the lake to take part in the event and in the activities, such as horse sleigh race or competitions of shagain naadam (a kind of curling). Some sculptures on ice are made, and other activities like ice-skating are organized.

It’s a period of exchange between the different nomadic ethnic groups of the area, that’s why the event is very important for the Mongolians and Russians living there. If you want to go there.
