Some experts even claim that the seas surrounding these remote islands may be home to the greatest diversity of coral species in the world!

This is why UNESCO is considering adding Raja Ampat to its World Heritage List. It’s also the reason we invite you to explore this breathtaking, remote archipelago, befo...

Day 6The Iconic Wayag

Day 6The Iconic Wayag

  • Get ready for a full day of exploration by speedboat through some of Raja Ampat’s most iconic and remote sites. Your journey begins with a cruise to Kabui Bay and its spectacular channel known as The Passage. This narrow strait, once described by Alfred Russel Wallace as "one of the most picturesque landscapes I have ever seen," separates the islands of Gam and Waigeo and is lined with towering limestone cliffs.

En route, you’ll pass by a pearl farm before entering this nutrient-rich waterway, which resembles a flowing river and is teeming with marine life due to the strong tidal currents. You'll have the chance to snorkel in this unique environment, surrounded by mangroves and dramatic rock formations.

The adventure continues with a stop at a quiet, remote jetty near Kabui before reaching a hidden bay—one of Raja Ampat’s best-kept secrets.

  • Here, you’ll snorkel above vibrant coral gardens in crystal-clear waters. Accessed via a long, narrow channel dotted with coral heads and patrolled by small reef sharks, this magical area unfolds into a maze of limestone islets and secret coves. You'll swim in a peaceful lagoon and even have the chance to explore a cave inhabited by colonies of bats.

If time allows, you’ll make a stop on the island of Pef to see ancient rock paintings before cruising on to Alyui Bay. Then comes the crown jewel of Raja Ampat: Wayag. These iconic karst islets—featured on the new 100,000-rupiah banknotes—are now a symbol of Indonesia’s natural heritage.

You’ll first head to Shark Point, where you can wade into shallow turquoise waters as small reef sharks swim playfully between your legs. For the adventurous, two steep hiking trails lead up to breathtaking viewpoints—challenging climbs rewarded with sweeping panoramic views over the archipelago. Afterward, take a refreshing dip in the warm, tranquil waters of a pristine lagoon.

To end this unforgettable day, you’ll reach a hidden beach tucked away in what might just be the most beautiful lagoon you’ve ever seen. Overnight in a simple beach bivouac, right by the water’s edge.
