  • Our driver and our guide pick us up from our hotel at 8 a.m. to reach Selo, the starting village of our hike. In Selo, we find the porters equipped with our tent, sleeping bags, food, snacks

  • We then begin our first day of ascent, on the slopes of Merbabu. We first cross a pine forest before beginning to see our objective, the Kenteng Songo summit. Arrival at Sabana II base camp in the middle of the afternoon. Setting up camp before being able to watch the magnificent sunset over Mount Merapi. Night in a tent.

Day 2Ascent of the Kenteng Songo Summit

  • Departure is early (3am), we make the last efforts to reach the summit before sunrise. During this last ascent, we can admire the extent of the cities of Jogjakarta and Solo, to the south, with the silhouette of Merapi in the foreground. Once at the summit, we take advantage of the first rays of sun to warm up. The 6 volcanoes of Central Java then appear on the horizon. After sunrise we return to base camp for breakfast

    Negative height difference: 300m

  • We begin our descent to return to Selo where our driver is waiting for us. Return road to Yogyakarta.
    Negative elevation: 1200 m
