Trekking in Koh Kong & Coastside

This stay begins with the discovery of the capital Phnom Penh before starting a trek at the foot of the Carmamomes in the wild province of Koh Kong then in the protected national park Kirirom. We will continue our adventure stay in Kampot to finish with a few days of well-deserved rest on the beaches of the island of Koh Rong.

  • After breakfast, departure by road to the province of Koh Kong, in the west of the country. The region is still very wild and undeveloped. Ideal for getting off the beaten track! The price to pay is precisely a rather long and tiring road because in rather bad condition.

  • On the way, we take a short detour towards the Tatai Falls. By car, we have to take a rather rough track for about 2km but the beautiful waterfall and the possibility of swimming are well worth this sacrifice of comfort!

    We then hit the road again.

  • Once you arrive safely, you board a small boat to go to the Cardomom Tented Camp located about twelve kilometers from the place of embarkation.

    Free time and rest after your check-in.

  • After breakfast, set off on a day trip combining hiking and kayaking.

    On the program, 9km of course (50% walking, 50% kayaking) in the middle of the primary forest of Koh Kong, at the foot of the Cardamom chain.

    With very little elevation, the hike is accessible to all. With a bit of luck, you might spot long-tailed macaques, kingfishers, toucans and water dragons. The lucky ones will observe passing gibbons or the otter family that lives in the area.

    Back at the camp, you can extend your exploration by kayak, try your hand at zip-lining or continue walking on the small path near the camp.

  • Around 9:30 a.m., the resort team takes you back by boat to the point of origin where your driver is waiting for you.

  • We take the road to the rural community of Chambok located on the outskirts of Kirirom National Park.

  • Once we arrive at our destination, we settle in with the locals; the rest of the day is free except for meals that we will have at the community restaurant. You have to walk 10-15 minutes to get there from the homestay, or ask our driver to take us there.

  • After breakfast, we meet our local English-speaking guide who will give us a short briefing on the history and activities of this small rural community.

    We then start the trek inside the Kirirom National Park towards the waterfall. Swimming and resting at the waterfall, then going back down to the community center for lunch.

    It takes a good hour of walking with a positive elevation gain throughout. Total duration: approximately 3 hours

  • The Kampot region is internationally recognized for its exceptional pepper. It is therefore impossible to go to Kampot without taking a trip to one of the many pepper plantations in the region!

    We therefore visit the family pepper production farm, La Ferme de Sothy with a guide to the plantation who will explain the origin and why of the fame of this spice. You will learn more about cultivation methods and how to cook this famous pepper.

  • Along the way, near Kep, exploring the caves of Phnom Kampong Trach has some nice surprises in store for you. Considered as natural temples by local Buddhists, they hide many statues and altars. As the high point of this "caving" excursion, a beautiful representation of a reclining Buddha awaits you in an open-air clearing created by the collapse of the rock.

  • After breakfast, we drive to the neighboring town of Kep where we embark on a full-day eco-tour around the islands of Kep Bay.

    Aboard the Nāga, a traditional Khmer fishing boat, we will sail through the Kep archipelago, following the waves and currents, away from any other tourist circuit.

    Equipped with masks and snorkels, let's discover the depths and reefs of the Kep archipelago where many species of colorful fish, sea urchins, starfish and corals live.

    Relax in the warm, swimmable waters of Snake Island Bay for a fish and seafood barbecue on the boat. We then visit a traditional fishing village where we can soak up the atmosphere and observe the preparation of nets, crab cages and bait while drinking an iced coffee. Finally, we leave to explore a charming little lost and atypical islet.

    We may have the rare chance to observe Irrawaddy dolphins in this area… Keep your eyes peeled!

    The boat tour is private and begins around 9 a.m. with a return around 4 p.m.

  • In the morning at 10 a.m., we discover the salt marshes by bike: These salt water basins operated by local salt workers. They produce high quality iodized salt and are home to remarkable biodiversity. After lunch on the river, we will take a trip on the water by kayak or paddle board of your choice. We will descend the river past the mangroves to the sea observing the local wildlife and enjoying the views of the Bokor and Phu Quoc. We return by boat at sunset.

    Duration of the outing: 6 hours. 2-hour bike ride in the morning, 2 hours by kayak or paddle in the afternoon then return by boat. bikes, helmets, and kayaks included with water.

  • Meet with your tuktuk at 8:45 a.m. for a transfer to Kampot station. You take the train towards Sihanoukville

    When you arrive, a tuktuk will be waiting to take you to the pier.

    The boats do not all leave from the same pier. It is important to quickly let us know the name of your hotel on the island so that we can give instructions to the tuktuk.
    
  • Boat transfer to Koh Rong from Sihanoukville pier. Our team on site will be waiting for you at the pier to give you your boat tickets.

      The boat staff will take half of your ticket. Save the other half for the return!

  • Meet at 8 a.m. with your guide and tuktuk at the hotel reception.

  • Discover the famous Wat Phnom which gave its name to the capital. The "hill pagoda" is the highest point of Phnom Penh.

  • Visitons ensuite le Palais Royal et la Pagode d'Argent, véritables joyaux de l'architecture khmère construits au milieu du XIXe siècle.

    Le code vestimentaire du Palais Royal est assez strict : épaules et genoux doivent être couverts. Port du masque obligatoire.
    
  • Poursuivons par le Musée National et découvrons l'une des plus importantes collections d'art khmer: 14 000 sculptures et objets ethnographiques, provenant pour la plupart des temples d'Angkor

  • Visit of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), the largest detention and torture center under the Pol Pot regime and the Khmer Rouge which will reveal a very painful chapter to you of the history of Cambodia.

  • Visit Phnom Penh's Central Market and/or Russian Market if there's enough time after the previous visits (markets close rather early)
