Welcome to Kota Kinabalu!

Upon your arrival at Kota Kinabalu airport, your driver awaits you at the exit with a sign bearing your name. After this first meeting, you take to the road together to reach your hotel, then you begin discovering the capital of the Sabah region at your own pace.

You will then have free time to discover Kota Kinabalu at your own pace. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a stroll along the waterfront, admire the sunset from the Esplanade or head to the Jesselton Point district, the departure point for the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. The numerous cafés and restaurants in the city center are also an excellent opportunity to taste local cuisine. The driver is not at your disposal during your free time.

Authentic Markets of Kota Kinabalu

Free day in Kota Kinabalu, which you explore at your own pace. The driver is not available. Take the opportunity to stroll through the craft market, also known as Filipino Market, where the night market atmosphere is pleasant once evening arrives. If you enjoy local atmospheres, treat yourself to a walk in Pasar Besar, literally the "big market", to observe the daily life of the residents.

Towards Mount Kinabalu Park

After breakfast, you leave Kota Kinabalu heading towards the Kinabalu National Park. On the way, a stop is planned in the village of Nabalu, where you can discover local crafts, taste seasonal fruits and enjoy, in clear weather, a magnificent panorama of Mount Kinabalu from the observation tower.

Upon arrival at the park, you set off for a guided walk with a naturalist, who will show you the richness of the flora and fauna of this UNESCO World Heritage site. You then continue with a visit to the mountain botanical garden (open from 15:00 to 16:00), which houses a remarkable collection of endemic plants from Borneo.

The rest of the afternoon is free. You can relax at your accommodation or take one of the accessible trails to continue discovering the park's landscapes at your own pace.

Ascent to Laban Rata

Peak of Mount Kinabalu

Very early wake-up: around 2 a.m., you begin the final ascent to the summit of Mount Kinabalu. The climb takes approximately 3 hours and allows you to reach the summit at dawn, in order to witness the sunrise around 6 a.m.

You then descend to the Laban Rata guesthouse for breakfast, then continue the descent to the arrival point. You retrieve your climbing certificate before heading back towards Kota Kinabalu.

Please note: giant red flying squirrels live within the grounds of MY Nature Resort. They come out almost every evening, but sightings cannot be guaranteed. They typically leave their nests between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM. If you prefer a quieter time, you can choose to stay at the resort rather than visit the canopy walkway at the nearby Rainforest Discovery Centre.

Sepilok, Malaysian Sun Bear and Kinabatangan River

This morning, your driver accompanies you to the Sepilok orangutan sanctuary, where orangutans that have lived in captivity are gradually being reintroduced to the wild. You observe them at the feeding platforms, in the heart of the tropical forest, and, if it is open, at the nursery. You attend the 10:00 a.m. feeding session.

You then continue towards the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) 500 meters away, a center dedicated to Malayan sun bears, committed to conservation, rehabilitation and awareness. More than 30 bears live there, divided between the bear house and outdoor enclosures.

To Sukau

Around 11:30 AM, you drive towards Sukau. You arrive at the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge around 1:30 PM, where lunch is served.

At 4:30 PM, you depart for a cruise on the Kinabatangan River to the Menanggul River, in search of proboscis monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife.

Bird watching at Kinabatangan

Early wake-up call today: at 06:30, you board for a boat outing on Ox Bow Lake. In the gentleness of the early morning hours, you set off in search of the many bird species that populate the banks of the Kinabatangan. With a bit of luck, you may also observe monkeys, monitor lizards or even crocodiles. Return to the lodge in the morning.

You then peacefully enjoy the resort's facilities.

In the late afternoon, you set off on a new boat excursion on the Menanggul River. As sunset approaches, the forest comes alive and offers beautiful opportunities to observe proboscis monkeys, hornbills, macaques, and many other emblematic species of Borneo.

After breakfast, you leave the Kinabatangan riverbanks and head towards the Tabin Wildlife Reserve via Lahad Datu. Upon arrival, you settle into a wooden bungalow at Tabin Wildlife Resort, equipped with a private balcony and a shower with hot water, true comfort in the heart of the tropical forest.

In this complex located in the middle of the tropical rainforest, along the Lipad River, you will be able to observe a wide variety of birds, insects and small mammals. If you wish, you can start the day at dawn by taking part in a birdwatching walk. Tabin Reserve is home to nearly 300 species, making this site a true paradise for bird enthusiasts.

Passport

To enter Malaysia, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your date of entry into the country and have at least two blank pages for immigration stamps.

Tourist stay without visa

Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada benefit from a visa exemption for tourist stays.

This exemption allows a stay of up to 90 days upon entry to the territory. The authorized length of stay is granted at the discretion of Malaysian immigration authorities at the time of entry.

Authorities may also request:

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Before your arrival, you must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), a digital entry form implemented by Malaysian authorities.

This document replaces the arrival card previously handed out on the plane and allows you to provide immigration services with certain information necessary for entry to the territory:

  • passport information

  • flight details

  • address of your first accommodation in Malaysia

The form must be completed online within three days before your arrival. A digital confirmation or QR code may be requested when passing through immigration.

Minors must hold their own valid passport covering the duration of the stay.

In certain European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, a departure authorization from the territory may be required according to the regulations of their country of residence.
