The information below concerns travelers who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and Canada traveling to Zambia for tourism purposes. Entry rules may change, so we recommend verifying the information with the official authorities before your departure.

Passport

To enter Zambia, your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the country and have at least two blank pages for immigration stamps.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn or altered pages).

Tourist visa

Most nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada must have a visa to enter Zambia. This visa can be obtained in several ways:

  • online before departure via the official Zambian eVisa portal,

  • on arrival (visa on arrival) at certain airports and international border posts.

The tourist visa is generally granted for a stay of up to 30 days, with the possibility of extension through the Zambian Immigration Department. Visas of 90 days may be issued in certain cases.

Visa fees apply and vary depending on nationality and length of stay. It is recommended to pay these fees in cash (US dollars) if the visa is obtained on arrival.

Authorities may also request:

  • an exit ticket from the territory (return or onward flight),

  • proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of the stay,

  • an accommodation reservation.

UNIVISA (regional visa)

Zambia and Zimbabwe jointly offer the UNIVISA, a single visa allowing free entry into both countries during the same trip. This visa is particularly suited for travelers wishing to visit Victoria Falls, located on the border between the two countries.

The UNIVISA can be obtained on arrival at participating airports and border posts, or online, and is valid for 30 days.

Health

No vaccination is compulsory to enter Zambia, except if you are arriving from a country where yellow fever is endemic, in which case an international yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.

It is strongly recommended to consult a doctor or vaccination center before departure. The following vaccinations are generally advised:

  • update of routine vaccinations (hepatitis A, typhoid, etc.),

  • vaccination against yellow fever is recommended,

  • antimalarial prophylaxis is strongly advised, as malaria is present throughout the country.

Traveling with children

Minors must have their own valid passport covering the duration of the stay.

When a minor travels without one or both parents, it is recommended to carry a parental consent letter, accompanied by copies of the parents' identity documents. Zambian authorities may be particularly vigilant on this point in order to combat human trafficking.

In certain European countries, an authorization to leave the territory may be required depending on the regulations of the country of residence.

Other nationalities

Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travelers concerned should inquire at the embassy or consulate of Zambia in their country of residence.
