The spirit of travel

The turquoise waters of Lake Khövsgöl are reflected in the morning silence while horses graze freely on its shores bordered by larch trees. In the distance, the peaks of the Khangaï pierce through the mist, ancient guardians of this land where time seems suspended. The smell of yak dung fire and the guttural chants of herders accompany each sunrise in this preserved Mongolie.

The Amarbayasgalant monastery reveals its golden roofs nestled in the verdant valley, before the road winds towards the craters of Uran Togoo where ancient lava has given way to lush vegetation. At Terkhiin Tsagaan, the "great white lake", the volcanic formations of Khorgo bear witness to a tumultuous geological past, while the hot springs of Tsenkher invite contemplation. The Orkhon valley unveils its roaring waterfalls and grasslands where horses gallop, leading to the ruins of Karakorum, the ancient capital of Genghis Khan.

This territory carries the memory of the great Mongol khans, heirs to the infinite steppes and masters of the equestrian art. The families of herders perpetuate here the ancestral gestures of transhumance, setting up and taking down their yurts to the rhythm of the seasons, keeping alive a nomadic culture that centuries have not altered. This crossing of deep Mongolie reveals the soul of a people who remained faithful to its pastoral traditions.

Today, only a few remains of the capital subsist, reminding us of the historical importance of this place marked by the passage of the great khans.

Visit of the Erdene Zuu monastery, built in 1586 by a nomadic prince. The complex, inspired by Chinese and Tibetan architecture, is surrounded by 108 sacred stupas, which testify to the spiritual importance of the site. The discovery continues at the Karakorum museum, dedicated to the history of the ancient capital and its region.

Departure for the splendid rock formations of Khögnö Khan. You discover a park with varied landscapes, between semi-desert steppes, taiga zones, granite massifs and a long band of sand of about 80 km, which earned it the nickname of "mini Gobi".

Then, you head out on a hiking trip to the Khambiin Khiid Monastery. Perched in the mountains, this 17th-century monastery was built by Zanabazar in tribute to his spiritual master, the monk Erdene. The peaceful atmosphere that reigns there and the views of the surrounding area make it a remarkable cultural and spiritual stop.
