In the south-west of the island, the Dingle, Ivreagh, Beara, Sheep's Head and Mizen peninsulas stretch out like five fingers into the ocean. Here, no motorways to rush through the country!

Kinsale and the South Coast
Join the historic port of Kinsale town, former naval stronghold and hotspot of local gastronomy.
With its art galleries, award-winning restaurants and sailing boats, it is a renowned seaside resort in Irlande.
A visit to Charles Fort will allow you to retrace its thrilling naval battles.
Cape Clear
Baltimore → Île de Cape Clear
The south-west of Irlande is home to rich and fabulous marine fauna ! Seals, dolphins and whales frequent its waters. Its numerous islets are located on the trajectory of migratory birds that nest there by the hundreds.
Take the ferry towards Cape Clear island, where you can rent kayaks to explore its coves. Stop at the pub to chat with the locals, who are so fond of stories that a storytelling festival is held every year on their island in August.
Alternatively, embark on a boat excursion to observe cetaceans. Different species are visible depending on the time of year.
Mizen and Sheeps Head
Put on your sneakers to walk the trail along the Mizen cliffs, all the way to the lighthouse and former radio station. You're now at the very western extremity of Ireland! A bridge between the rocks allows you to admire the crashing waves below.
The peninsulas of Mizen Head and Sheeps Head each offer very beautiful hikes for all levels with magnificent views of the Atlantic.
Mizen Head → Kenmare
On the way to Kenmare, stop at Bantry House manor and its gardens and go see the seals lounging in the waters towards Glengarriff.

Beara Peninsula
Less frequented than the other peninsulas in south-west Irlande, the Beara Peninsula is ideal for getting away from it all !
Stop at the colorful villages of Alihies and Eyries to discover the mining history of this isolated region. At its very tip, you can visit Dursey island, a small island with only five inhabitants, accessible via the only cable car in Irlande !
Take the Healy Pass at the end of your loop for a magnificent view of the mountains and other peninsulas.
Alternative : Possibility of taking a boat cruise from Kenmare to observe a seal colony and spot sea eagles.

The Ring of Kerry
Kenmare → Killorglin
One of the most beautiful walks in Irlande ! This superb route runs along the coast of the Ivreagh peninsula.
It will take you between steep mountain passes and coastal areas while offering you the best panoramic views of the Atlantic and Killarney National Park. The complete loop is approximately 165 km.
Among its many attractions, don't miss Torc Waterfall, the Moll's Gap pass, Ladies View and Muckross Abbey.
Let yourself be amazed by the fabulous landscape and enjoy seafood or fresh fish in the charming small villages that dot the route.
Overnight stay in Killorglin.
The Gap of Dunloe
The Gap of Dunloe is a mountain pass between the Macgillycuddy's Reeks and the Purple Mountains. It is a magnificent day trip from Killarney, which can be done in an active version or without any effort at all!
Take the boat from the Ross Castle pier across the three lakes of the national park to Lord Bandon's cottage. From there, it is possible to cross the pass on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage to Kate's cottage before returning to Killarney by bus.
A splendid day in the heart of nature.

Dingle Peninsula
Located north of County Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula is a bastion of Irish culture and language.
Boasting stunning panoramic views and charming beaches, it is home to several historic sites, such as the Gallarus Oratory: built from cut stone, it is believed to have served as a funeral chapel or shelter for pilgrims.
Take the Slea Head road, at the very tip of the peninsula, for a spectacular view of the Blasket Islands.
The village of Dingle (An Daingean) itself has several pleasant pubs and restaurants.

Passport and identity card
Ireland is a member of the European Union but is not part of the Schengen area. For nationals of the EEA and Switzerland, entry is possible with a valid passport or, for EU citizens, with a valid national identity card.
Canadian nationals must hold a valid passport for the entire duration of the stay.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn or altered pages).
Tourist stay without visa
Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada benefit from visa exemption for tourist stays in Ireland.
Citizens of the EEA and Switzerland may stay in Ireland without time limit as community nationals. Canadian nationals benefit from a visa exemption allowing a stay of up to 90 days.
Irish authorities may request:
an outbound ticket from the territory (return or onward flight),
proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of the stay,
an accommodation address in Ireland.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
Ireland is introducing an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for certain foreign nationals. To date, citizens of the EEA, Switzerland and Canada are exempt. However, we recommend you verify the situation with the Irish authorities before your departure, as conditions may change.
Travelling with children
Minors must hold their own valid passport or identity card covering the duration of the stay.
In some European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an authorisation to leave the territory may be required according to the regulations of the country of residence.
Other nationalities
Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travellers concerned should enquire with the embassy or consulate of Ireland in their country of residence.
