What types of accommodation can you find in China?
China offers a wide range of accommodations: youth hostels, family hotels, budget Chinese chains (Jinjiang, Hanting), 3-5 star hotels, major international chains (Marriott, Hyatt), boutique hotels, and apartment rentals. Camping is not permitted.
Budget-Friendly Accommodations
Youth hostels and hotels : present in all major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu). They offer dormitories and private rooms, with practical services (wifi, laundry, train ticket booking). English-speaking staff.
Small family hotels : traditional structures organized around a courtyard or small modern buildings. Comfort varies depending on the bathroom and air conditioning.
Chinese chains : Jinjiang Inns, Hanting Express, Home Inns, Motel 168, 7 Days Inn, GreenTree Inns. Functional hotels with basic amenities, attractive prices but staff do not always speak English.
Upscale Accommodations
3-star and above hotels : rooms to international standards at affordable rates. Chinese or international buffet breakfast included depending on the establishment.
Major international chains : Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton, Shangri La, Ritz-Carlton, Sofitel in major cities. Very high-end with services and corresponding prices.
Boutique hotels : developing, maximum 20 rooms, careful decoration and personalized service.
Alternatives
Furnished apartment rentals : interesting option for families or groups of friends, advantageous from 4 people onwards. Rental possible by the day, week or month.
Camping : not licensed in China. Wild camping is prohibited, only a few hikes organized by local agencies offer it exceptionally.
