Arrival in Slovénie

Ljubljana → Bohinj

1h0559 km

Upon arrival at the airport, you pick up your rental vehicle and head west towards the magnificent Lake Bohinj. This first stage immerses you immediately in the peaceful and verdant atmosphere of the Julian Alps. If you arrive early enough, stop in Radovljica. Stroll through its charming historic centre, visit the Apiculture Museum and taste local specialities, such as gingerbread or artisanal chocolate.

Then head to Lake Bled, and climb up to the majestic Bled Castle. In the afternoon, board a traditional "pletna" boat, these unique boats found only in Bled, propelled by oars by "pletnars" whose craftsmanship has been passed down from father to son since the 16th century. On the Island of Bled, climb the 99 steps (a lucky tradition!) up to the Assumption Church to ring the wishing bell – legend has it that your wish will come true.

For tea time, we recommend the famous "kremšnita", an airy pastry cream between two layers of crispy pastry, a recipe jealously guarded since 1953 by the Park Hotel pastry shop. The view of the lake in the background makes this local delicacy even more sublime.

At the end of the day, continue towards Bohinj, where you reach your accommodation for the night.

Bohinj, Preserved Natural Jewel

Today, discover the Bohinj lake, nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps, in a preserved natural environment. Wilder and more peaceful than its neighbor, Lake Bled, it invites you to fully enjoy the mountain landscapes. Start your day by visiting the Church of Saint John the Baptist, known for its medieval frescoes. Continue with a walk along the shores of the lake, where crystal-clear waters and surrounding mountains create a setting conducive to relaxation.

You can also choose to visit Savica Waterfall. After a short 20-minute hike through the forest, you discover this waterfall that gushes from a crack in the cliff. This natural site notably inspired several Slovenian poets.

At lunch time, take the Vogel cable car to reach the heights at 1,535 meters altitude. From the summit, enjoy a panorama of Lake Bohinj and the reliefs of the Julian Alps. A traditional meal awaits you in this mountain setting.

After lunch, if you wish, explore the marked hiking trails that cross the flowering alpine meadows and pine forests. A great opportunity to discover the high-altitude landscapes at your own pace.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner in a gostilna, a Slovenian inn where slow-cooked dishes showcase family recipes and local flavors.
