Taiwan: when to go?

subtropical humide / tropical au sud climate

Taiwan offers you a rich and contrasting climate experience, shaped by its geographic position at the crossroads of the Pacific and the tropics. The island roughly divides into two major seasons: a dry and mild season from October to April, a true golden window for exploration, and a humid season from May to September, marked by monsoons and typhoons. In the north, Taipei displays a subtropical character with cool and misty winters, while the south of the island, around Kenting, enjoys a frankly tropical climate, warm and sunny almost year-round. The months of October to December are undoubtedly the prime period: typhoons are rare, temperatures pleasantly cool down, the sky clears and nature reveals its finest autumn colors at higher altitudes. January and February remain very pleasant, ideal for cultural visits during Lunar New Year, even if a light sweater is necessary in the evening in Taipei. On the summer side, be warned: from June to September, typhoons can strike without warning and torrential rains make certain mountain roads impassable. The sticky heat is intense there, especially in the plains. Our advice: plan your stay between October and March to fully enjoy the temples, Taroko Gorge and the tea landscapes of Alishan under the best possible conditions.
