It must be said that there was not much information the first time we went there. We were with a couple to whom we had asked if they accepted to do some reconnaissance. On Google Earth we could see the lake shore and we thought that it was possible to reach Playa Chifrón near Capachica at the lake shore by walking only a few hours. So we arrived in Escallani and met Rufino who welcomed us in his small house above the lake near the village.

The guest rooms and the common room surround a beautiful patio that opens on the immensity of the lake Titicaca. The beds have clean sheets and pillows and the small rooms are pleasant. But what makes the place so enchanting is the welcome of Rufino and his family, their kindness and their constant concern for the comfort of their guests.

From the community of Escallani we leave in general with Rufino on ancient Inca paths that we discovered during our first reconnaissance. After a three hour hike on a balcony above the lake we arrive at a small cove where Gerardo, Flora Borda's husband, is waiting for us in Amantani.

But the visitors who want to stay longer in Escallani are spoiled for choice concerning the visits. They are indicated on the Escallani page in the destinations.

Rufino is one of our dear friends and all our travelers who pass by his place are full of praise for him.
